The Department of Periodontology at Maratha Mandalโ€™s Nathajirao G. Halgekar Institute of Dental Sciences & Research Centre, Belagavi celebrated National Periodontist Day on 23 February 2026 with enthusiasm and academic engagement to promote awareness about periodontal health and its connection to overall well-being.

The event featured an educational skit titled โ€œMasoodon ki Mahimaโ€ performed by postgraduate students for the support staff, creatively highlighting the importance of oral hygiene, early diagnosis and professional periodontal care. A postgraduate student also delivered an informative talk on treatment options for gum bleeding, bad breath, tooth mobility, and advanced periodontal therapies available to the public.

The program included a welcome address and vote of thanks by Dr. Sachita S.N., Lecturer, who emphasized the importance of healthy gums and their link to systemic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The event was graced by Dr. Ramakanth Nayak, Principal.

Dr. Pushpa S. P., Head of the Department of Periodontology, along with Professors Dr. Sheetal S., Dr. Sandeep K., and Dr. Sachin S., were present on the occasion. Lecturers Dr. Sachita S.N., Dr. Saloni D., and Dr. Shiphalika, along with postgraduate students, interns, and support staff, actively participated in making the event meaningful and successful.

The initiative reflected the departmentโ€™s commitment to community education and preventive oral healthcare, encouraging individuals to prioritize gum health as an essential part of overall wellness.

The Research and Ethical Committee, in association with the Central Research Laboratory (CRL) and DDE, successfully organized the program โ€œAI in Researchโ€ on 15th November 2025 at the auditorium. The event highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in modern research, especially in healthcare and dentistry.

Successfully conducted a Pre-Convention Workshop (PCW) on Full Mouth Rehabilitation as part of the 28th Indian Prosthodontics Society Post Graduate Convention held from April 24th to 26th, 2026 at the KLE Convention Centre, Belagavi.

The workshop was led by Dr. Preethi Kusugal (Chief Mentor), Dr. Zarir Ruttonji, Dr. Abhijit Patil, Dr. Somesh Pattanashetti, and Dr. Chithra Melavanki, providing participants with valuable insights into the principles and procedures of Full Mouth Rehabilitation through lectures, case discussions, and clinical & laboratory demonstrations.

The program witnessed the participation of 40 delegates from across the country and was successfully completed with highly positive feedback from the attendees. It contributed significantly to the academic enrichment of the participants and reinforced the importance of comprehensive rehabilitation in Prosthodontic practice.
