🚨 Kids Who Rub Their Eyes Repeatedly? Don’t Ignore It!

Constant eye rubbing is not normal — it can permanently change the eye’s surface.
👁 Allergies or VKC (vernal keratoconjunctivitis) may improve with medicine for a few days, but if rubbing restarts, the allergy returns and worsens.

⚠ Repeated rubbing can lead to keratoconus — a serious, vision-threatening condition.

✅ What Parents Should Do:

- Never let kids rub their eyes repeatedly.
- Even if eye power is zero, protective glasses help reduce irritation and rubbing.
- Get a full eye checkup if your child rubs often, even after short-term relief from medicine.

⚠ Not Just Glasses — A Hidden Danger in Kids’ Eyes

Recently, a 7-year-old came to us with poor vision.
Parents thought he just needed glasses — but he didn’t.
His eye pressure was 40 (normal is ~15).
Diagnosis: Juvenile Open-Angle Glaucoma — already 80–90% vision lost.

💡 If he had come two years earlier, 20–30% of vision could have been saved.

👁 Lesson for Parents:

- Don’t assume every vision problem is just a need for glasses.
- Brain tumors, glaucoma, diabetes complications, or nerve issues can also harm vision — at any age (7, 10, 15, 25).
- A complete eye exam must check pressure, optic nerve health, and lens power, not just glasses.

✅ Early checkups save sight.
Bring your child for a screening — especially around ages 7–8 — even if everything seems normal.

👁 Lazy Eye in Kids — Don’t Miss the Early Signs

Many parents don’t notice a child’s vision problem until age 5–7.
But a condition called Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) can silently damage sight much earlier.

⚠ What happens:
One eye sees well while the other is weaker. The brain starts ignoring the weaker eye — causing permanent vision loss if untreated.

✅ Good news:
If detected before age 7–8, correct glasses + occlusion therapy (patching) can fully restore vision.
After that age, improvement becomes very difficult.

🔍 Watch for:

- Tilting head or looking at screens from one side
- Rubbing one eye
- Family history of high power
- Long hours on digital devices

📅 Eye check every 3 years is essential — even if everything seems normal.

🙅‍♂️ Don’t Rub Your Eyes — Here’s Why 👁️

❌ Rubbing your eyes can:

Spread dirt & infection from your hands

Cause abrasions & injuries

Worsen allergies (like in kids with vernal keratoconjunctivitis)

🌾 During dusty seasons or harvest time, the risk is even higher.
👓 Tip: Wearing glasses can reduce irritation and prevent direct rubbing.
❄️ Cold compresses are a safe remedy to ease itching — heat makes it worse, cold makes it better.

👉 If your child rubs their eyes often, get their vision checked. Sometimes, glasses solve the root cause.
