Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled or blood-filled sacs that form in the ovaries. Most cysts are not dangerous and, in many cases, resolve naturally without treatment. They can develop due to hormonal imbalance, genetic factors, or even as a side effect of certain medicines. Common symptoms may include pelvic pain, abdominal discomfort, painful periods, or irregular menstrual cycles, although many cysts show no symptoms at all.
Simple and functional cysts usually do not affect pregnancy, but conditions like chocolate cysts or hemorrhagic cysts may require proper medical attention. Treatment depends on the type and cause of the cyst — some cases only need monitoring, while others may require medicines or surgery. If you experience continuous pain or irregular periods, consult a gynaecologist for timely diagnosis and care.
