Gingival Abscess:
A Gingival Abscess is a localized infection that occurs in the gum tissue, typically resulting from food particles, debris or foreign objects ( like a toothbrush bristle or popcorn kernel) becoming trapped in the gums. This leads to swelling, redness and the pain in a small, localized area of the gum. The infection is confined to the surface tissues and doesn't extend to the tooths root or surrounding structures. Treatment usually involves drainage of the Abscess and removal of the irritant. Proper oral Hygiene and regular dental cleaning helps prevent Gingival Abscesses.
Periodontal Abscess:
A Periodontal Abscess is a deeper infection that occurs within the Periodontium, the supporting structures of the teeth, including the gums, bone, and Periodontal ligament. It is typically caused by untreated Periodontal diseases (Periodontitis),where bacteria accumulate in the deep pockets between the teeth and gums. This infection can cause significant pain, swelling, and even bone loss if left untreated. The Periodontal Abscess may also results from blockage in these pockets, trapping bacteria and debris. Treatment includes drainage of the Abscess, deep cleaning to remove bacteria from the pockets, and possibly antibiotics. In severe cases surgery might be required to remove infected tissue.
Periapical Abscess:
A Periapical Abscess in an infection that occurs at the tip of a tooths root often caused by untreated tooth decay ,trauma, or a cracked tooth that allows bacteria to enter the pulp chamber. The pulp, which contains the tooths nerves and blood vessels, becomes infected, leading to the formation of pus at the roots apex. This type of Abscess can cause significant pain, swelling, and sometimes a fever. Treatment generally involves a root canal to remove the infection pulp and clean the root canals, or extraction of the tooth if it cannot be saved..
