๐ตIn this condition inflammation of the lateral epicondyle happens.
๐ตLateral epicondyle is the bony prominence that we find at the lateral side of the arm above the elbow joint.
๐ตAll the tennis players get affected by this condition at least at some point of their carrer, specially in their early stages which is why it is known as tennis elbow.
๐ตMost of the time the beginner tennis players develop this condition while performing one handed back hand movement.
๐ตTennis elbow condition is more common in the dominant arm because most of the repetitive movements are done by the dominant arm.
๐ตLateral epicondylitis condition is visible in 5.7% of individuals in 18 to 30 years age group and in 16% of individuals older than 70 years.
๐ตBut most commonly this condition can be identified within the age group of 40 to 50 years.
This can also occur as an acute injury, as in accidents.
๐ตBut most commonly it occurs as an over use injury involving wrist extension against resistance. ๐ตDegeneration of extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon is more associated with this condition. ๐ตLateral epicondylitis usually resolves spontaneously within 1-2 years.
๐ตThe mechanism of the injury usually involves repeated stress to the large muscle group, outside of the elbow and forearm.
๐ตThese muscles can also get affected by small tears caused by improper technique or muscle weaknesses.
