Established in 1952 at Mumbai, National Association for the Blind (NAB) with its 22 State, 68 district branches & 11 Institutions for Blind Welfare across the country is the largest Non-Government Organization in the disability sector in India. It is dedicated to the upliftment of the quality of life of the visually challenged and integrating them with the mainstream society. The association is rendering valuable service to the society by developing educational, vocational and employment services for the incurable blind children, adults and Multi-disabled through its vast network in the country. NAB, Chandigarh and Punjab branch is operational since 1990 with its office at Karuna Sadan, UT Red Cross building, Sector 11, Chandigarh. WE ARE DULY REGISTERED WITH THE FOLLOWING:-

AICFB North Zone Chess Championship for the Visually Challenged 2025
Held from July 10–13 at the Sports Complex, Sector 39, Chandigarh, this incredible event brought together 80 talented visually impaired chess players from across North India.

Organized by NAB Chandigarh with All India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB), Sports Department, Chandigarh & Federal Bank Ltd., the championship celebrated inclusivity and sporting spirit of visually impaired.

Congratulations to Somendra, the North Zone Champion, 2025 and 2023 Asian Para Games bronze medalist, along with Satya Parkash Shrivastava & Mayank Sharma, the 1st and 2nd runners-ups! The top 7 players now advance to the National Chess Championship, and rising young stars will head to the Junior Nationals.

This event is a powerful reminder: Disability is not inability.

On June 4, 2025, National Association for the Blind (NAB), Chandigarh & Punjab, in collaboration with NAB India, Mumbai, organized an inclusive outreach program for visually impaired children. The event aimed to foster social integration and empowerment through enriching experiences. Highlights included a nature visit to Siswan Dam, India’s first Muli-Inclusive film Rabb Di Awaaz followed by an interactive session with director Ojaswwee Sharma and lead actor Shiv Kumar Sharma, and a special lunch to conclude the memorable day.

- Duration : (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including1 hour break)
- CRE Points : You will get *18 points* after successful evaluation with 70% marks

A Free Eye Screening Camp was organized on 30th April 2025 at NAB Institute for the Blind, Chandpur, benefiting residents of nearby villages and students of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Mullanpur—previously screened for dilation. A large number of employees from the Block Development Office, Majri, also availed themselves of the free eye care services. In parallel, a significant milestone was achieved with the distribution of assistive devices to blind students, following the Assessment Camp held on 6th March 2025. This initiative was conducted in collaboration with Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, and ALIMCO, a CPSE under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

We’re proud to announce the successful completion of an RCI-approved CRE program on “Teaching and Learning Material for Children and Adults with Disabilities,” held at the NAB Institute for the Blind, , Chandpur, Block Majri, Siswan-Kurali Highway, District SAS Nagar, Mohali – 140110.

*Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh Flagged Off Mobile Eye Clinic Van to be used for Prevention of avoidable blindness*

National Association for the Blind (NAB) Chandigarh and Punjab, proudly announces the launch of a Mobile Eye Clinic Van dedicated to providing free eye care services to underprivileged and marginalized communities. The Mobile Eye Clinic Van, generously donated by Rotary International with matching grants of Rotary Clubs, is equipped with state-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment designed to deliver comprehensive eye care services, in Schools, Villages, Colonies and Rural areas where access to medical facilities is limited.

The prestigious flag-off ceremony was held on March 20th at the Punjab Raj Bhavan, Chandigarh. The Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, flagged off and officially inaugurated the Mobile Eye Clinic van.

This impactful initiative aims to bridge the healthcare gap by ensuring quality eye care reaches those who need it most.

The services through this initiative include Free Eye Screening to ensure early detection and timely intervention. Those in need of further attention will be referred to the base Hospitals. Spectacles will be distributed free to correct refractive errors.

This initiative represents a major stride in NAB's mission to provide quality eye care to underserved populations

National Association for the Blind (NAB) recently organized two free eye check-up camps, one at the Community Center in Dhanas and the other at Santan Dharam Mandir, Milk Colony, Dhanas. As part of its ongoing commitment to promoting eye health, NAB conducted screenings for refractive errors and other eye-related issues, benefiting numerous individuals. Those who required further medical attention, including surgical intervention, were referred to hospitals for specialized care.

In line with its mission to provide accessible healthcare, NAB is organizing eye camps across the Chandigarh and Mohali districts to ensure timely medical intervention and prevent the deterioration of vision. These initiatives are particularly valuable for underprivileged children who cannot afford costly eye care, reinforcing NAB’s commitment to promoting accessible healthcare for all.
