The Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCH&RC) Punjab, successfully concluded a comprehensive three-day observance of Day2026 , marked by educational, clinical, and community engagement activities across its New Chandigarh and Sangrur campuses.

The event commenced with the 'CVAD Excellence Conclave & Skill Workshop', organized by the Department of Nursing. The workshop focused on best practices, risk prevention, complication management, and clinical excellence in CVAD. Nursing professionals and students from multiple institutions actively participated, fostering knowledge exchange and skill development.

The second and third days featured a wide range of educational, awareness, and creative initiatives held at HBCH&RC, New Chandigarh, and HBCH Sangrur. These included the inspiring 'Brave Heart' ramp walk by pediatric cancer warriors, rangoli and poster-making competitions, blood donation drives, preventive screening camps, nukkad natak, quiz competitions, and patient support group activities, collectively promoting cancer awareness, early detection, and community participation.

The observance was graced by the presence of Hon'ble Health Minister of Punjab, Dr. Balbir Singh, who attended as the Chief Guest. During his visit, he conducted an extensive tour of the hospital premises, interacted with patients and their families, and encouraged them with words of support and reassurance. Winners of various awareness and prevention competitions were felicitated by Hon'ble Health Minister of Punjab and Director, HBCH&RC Punjab, in recognition of their contributions to cancer education and advocacy.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Balbir Singh emphasized, "Cancer is curable if detected early. Along with awareness and a healthy lifestyle, the Punjab Government's ₹10 lakh health coverage scheme ensures that every citizen can access the best possible cancer treatment."

Dr. (Prof.) Ashish Gulia, Director, HBCH&RC Punjab, highlighted that the hospital has emerged as one of the largest state-of-the-art cancer centers in North India. As an extension of the Tata Memorial Centre Mumbai, HBCH&RC New Chandigarh has consistently upheld the highest standards of clinical excellence since its inauguration by Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022, reinforcing its role as a leading center for comprehensive cancer care.

Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Punjab, marked a significant milestone in its mission to provide world-class oncology care with the inauguration of state-of-the-art medical equipment. The advanced CT Scan and Bi-Plane DSA machines were officially handed over and commissioned through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Schedule 'A', 'Maharatna' Public Sector Enterprise of the Government of India.

The ceremony was chaired by Dr. Ashish Gulia, Director of HBCH&RC, Punjab, and attended by Independent Directors Shri Shiv Tapasya Paswan, Smt. Sajal Jha, and Shri Rohit Vaswani of POWERGRID. The addition of these high-end diagnostic and interventional tools represents a major leap in the hospital's ability to provide precise imaging and minimally invasive vascular procedures for cancer patients in the region.

Speaking on the impact of this collaboration, Dr. Ashish Gulia, Director, HBCH&RC, Punjab, stated, "The integration of this cutting-edge technology into our clinical workflow is a transformative step for patient care in Punjab. These machines do more than just provide better images; they allow for earlier detection and highly complex interventional procedures that save lives. We are deeply grateful to POWERGRID for their commitment to public health, which empowers us to deliver faster, more accurate treatment to those who need it most."

He further said, "Now, with a total capacity of 450 beds, Tata Memorial Centre Punjab is one of the largest tertiary public cancer care centers in the entire North India region, dedicated to providing global-standard cancer care to patients' doorsteps irrespective of their socioeconomic status."

Senior Officials of POWERGRID, commended the efforts of the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Punjab, in providing treatment and medical assistance to cancer patients in the region and expressed hope that the hospital would continue to serve the community with the same energy and dedication.

The event concluded with a formal tour of the new facilities, highlighting how the partnership between public sector leaders and healthcare institutions can significantly strengthen the nation's medical infrastructure.

The 2nd Anesthesia Review Course, Tata Memorial Centre (ARC-TMC Punjab 2025) was successfully held from 12th to 14th December 2025 at the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCH&RC), New Chandigarh. Organized by the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain, the course was designed as a comprehensive, examination-oriented academic program for postgraduate students of Anesthesiology.

Dr. (Prof.) Ashish Gulia, Director of HBCH&RC Punjab, highlighted the institute’s strong commitment to academics and research, emphasizing that education remains a core pillar alongside comprehensive cancer care.

ARC Punjab 2025 featured over 40 eminent faculty members from leading institutions, including AIIMS Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, GMCH Sector 32, PGI Rohtak, IGMC Shimla, AIIMS Bathinda, and medical colleges across North India. The Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCH&RC), Punjab, successfully hosted a crucial State-level Training of Trainer's Workshop on Medical Certification of Cause of Death (MCCD) on December 9, 2025 in its New Chandigarh campus.

This high-impact one-day workshop marks a significant step for the Government of Punjab in strengthening its Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system, a foundational element for evidence-based health policy and planning.

The workshop was organized in close collaboration with the Directorate of Census Operations, Punjab, Government of India, and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Punjab. It brought together nominated state government doctors and mortality coders from the statistical cadre.

The Department of Microbiology, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCH&RC), Punjab, successfully conducted MicroScope 2025 – a one-day academic event focused on "The Era of Antimicrobial Resistance – Combating Superbugs" on 29th November 2025 in its New Chandigarh Campus.

The conference brought together renowned clinicians, researchers, academicians and healthcare professionals to address the urgent global challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The scientific sessions featured impactful keynote lectures on emerging resistance mechanisms, innovative treatment strategies, diagnostic advancements, and stewardship practices. Engaging activities such as a quiz competition, poster/oral paper presentations, and case-based panel discussions further enriched the learning experience.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ashish Gulia, Director, HBCH&RC Punjab, expressed his appreciation for the participants and the initiative. He stated, "I am grateful to everyone who joined us and truly partnered with HBCHRC. Each participant carries a part of TMC’s ethos—our principles, education, service, and clinical commitment—forward into their own work. On November 26th, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Punjab, observed across both its New Chandigarh and Sangrur campuses.

Director (Prof) Dr. Ashish Gulia led the observance by reading the Preamble of the Constitution, after which the HBCH&RC staff reaffirmed their collective commitment to the foundational values and democratic ideals of the Republic.

Speaking on the significance of the day, Dr. Gulia said, "The Constitution not only introduces us to our rights but also reminds us of our responsibilities. As India strides toward the dream of a 'Viksit Bharat,' we must uphold our duties as citizens towards the nation."

The event concluded with a rendition of the National Anthem by the entire team.
