🎙️ Honoured to speak at ESIC CANCON 2025 – a CME focused on Bridging Specialities in Oncology, held at ESIC Medical College & Hospital, Chennai.

🧩 Contributed to the panel discussion on multidisciplinary care in resectable head and neck cancers, highlighting the role of radiation oncology from diagnosis to reconstruction.

💡 Shared key insights during the expert exchange on malignant neck nodes – from suspicion to strategy, offering the radiation oncologist’s perspective on evaluation, staging, and treatment planning.

Grateful to represent MGM Cancer Institute, which is also a treatment center under the ESI scheme, and to be part of these meaningful discussions on advancing collaborative cancer care.

🌟 She walked in with Stage 4 lung cancer that had spread to the brain… Today she walks in smiling, disease-free, 4 years later. 🌟

This isn’t a miracle — it’s precision medicine, timely care, and patient strength coming together.

Back in September 2021, a 48-year-old woman came in with balance issues and difficulty walking. An MRI showed lung cancer that had spread to the brain — Stage 4.

She was referred to me by my friend, neurosurgeon Dr. Pushkaran Jp , who had performed her brain surgery during the peak of COVID. I had just moved my practice to Chennai after working for a few years in Salem.

After surgery, we gave her whole brain radiation. At that time, it was the most practical option — considering her condition, the pandemic, and the fact that SRS/SRT wasn’t feasible due to logistical reasons.

When I first saw her, mutation testing hadn’t yet been sent, and there was some hesitation about whether to go ahead with it. I explained that if her tumor turned out to be EGFR positive, we could potentially avoid chemotherapy and treat her with just a daily oral tablet.

Since mutation results typically take 2–3 weeks, we proceeded with radiation in the meantime. Also, since her primary lung disease was still active and response to systemic therapy was uncertain, I had initially noted “palliative WBRT” in her chart.

But her story took a different path.
Her test came back EGFR positive, and she was started on Gefitinib — an affordable, once-daily tablet (₹3,000/month). What began as a palliative plan gradually became a curative journey.

💊🧠 Fast forward to July 2025 — her latest PET scan shows no evidence of cancer.
She’s doing well, living a completely normal life — 4 years after a diagnosis that once offered very limited hope.

💥 This is why I believe in multidisciplinary care, mutation testing, and never giving up too early.

She’s a living example that:
✔️ Stage 4 doesn’t mean the end
✔️ Brain involvement can be treated
✔️ Affordable care can be effective
✔️ A palliative plan can evolve into cure
✔️ There is always room for hope

🌟 My First TMLI — Every First is Special 🌟

At MGM Cancer Institute, we’ve treated 15 patients with Total Body Irradiation (TBI) for bone marrow transplant over the past year.

And now —
💠 I had the privilege of planning & delivering my first Total Marrow and Lymphoid Irradiation (TMLI) — a more advanced, organ-sparing technique.

Even more fulfilling —
✅ The patient has successfully engrafted! 💪🧬

This was only possible because of a phenomenal team:
🩺 Radiation Oncologists – Myself & Dr. Prahalad
🔬 Medical Physicists – Dr. Suman & Ruthra
📡 Technologists – Thara, Karupaiah, Reefa & Rahila
🧬 Hemato-Oncologists – Dr. Gopinath, Dr. Dheenadayalan & team

Grateful to for enabling such precision-driven care. 🙏
