It’s extremely gratifying when students are so “present” in the class. Observing and absorbing their body and minds and even breaths response to the varied movements and breath.
Your take on nature’s creation of man and especially women was absolutely spot on!
Pity, it is not realised that they are in fact the “prime movers” and “stabilizers” in the family and society. But it will also change. As all things change.

Back from vacation when you took a break from yoga practice? It is natural to go all out and do an intense practice on the day you resume, because your mind and body are fresh. A big NO. All it does is lead to a sore body the next day. And if that happens it is perfectly fine to use props to help you tide over the soreness.
So remember to ease your body into yoga practice whenever you have taken a break for any reason....vacation or illness.

The serpent — a symbol of fear yet revered and worshipped in Hinduism.

Like in many ancient cultures, the snake often symbolizes fear. And yet, in our tradition, we worship the serpent.
Before almost every yoga practice, we recite a prayer:

"Ābhahu puruśākāram
śanka chakrāsi dhārinam
sahasra śirasam śvetam
pranamāmi Patanjalim."

A dhyana shloka, saluting Sage Patanjali, who is seen as a reincarnation of Aadhi Sesha, the cosmic serpent — who has imparted the knowledge of yoga.

In Hatha Yoga, the serpent takes on even deeper meaning. It represents the Kundalini Shakthi; the dormant energy coiled at the base of our spine. Awakening this "serpent power" is the heart of the practice, a journey toward inner transformation.

The snake is a symbol of rebirth, renewal, and shedding, it reminds us to release old patterns, beliefs, and samskaras (mental impressions) that keep us from realizing our true Self.

Just as the snake sheds its skin, we too must shed what no longer serves us. Be subtle like the breath. Still like awareness. Transform like the serpent 🐍

Would you try to force your body into a dress that doesn't fit you?
It is the same with yoga practice. It is not meant to be a 'one size fits all' approach.
Achieving the perfect form is a function of years of practice, regularity and individual body's capability. This series features a veteran practitioner and teacher with decades of regular practice, in the foreground, guiding Deekshi who is a newbie teacher in regular practice, and the young one who has just started coming to classes. The difference in the form is clearly visible.
Don't force yourself to achieve a 'perfect textbook form' and cause harm to your body. What is of paramount importance is the synchronisation of the breath with the movement. This is reinforced every single day by our teachers Srimathi mam and Ravi Sir at the Shala.

Sirasasana or Headstand is sometimes viewed as a 'cool' thing to do and show off by some folks.
The truth is that Headstand which belongs to the group of inverted postures has tremendous benefits. If done correctly, with focus and proper breathing technique and sustained for sometime, it regulates blood flow to the head, improves core strength, and has myriad other benefits. Its greatest and lesser known contribution is to restore the internal organs which sag with age and gravity due to being upright most of our lives, gently to their original position.
Caution: those with neck and spinal issues may have to refrain from doing this. Headstand like any yoga is best taught by an experienced teacher.
Today our shala students get an upside view of the world with a teacher watching them closely.

Shoulder mobility is something we all slowly lose as we age. Time and again we hear about someone struggling with a frozen shoulder. Yoga has several postures which include shoulder mobility and ensure that it remains supple throughout our life.
Today we get a glimpse of Ganesan mama's practice, an octogenarian who doesn't miss a single yoga session. His joints including the shoulder remain superbly mobile due to his regular practice.
