Dr. Ram Rao Patil, DDG (Ayush Vertical), Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, undertook an official visit to the Siddha Clinical Research Unit (SCRU), functioning under the Central Council for Research in Siddha, on 21.04.2026.
The visit focused on a comprehensive review of the unit’s clinical services, ongoing research activities, patient care practices, Siddha-based research progress, optimal resource utilization, integration within the public healthcare system and overall functioning.
Dr. R. Susila, Officer In-Charge, presented an overview of SCRU, New Delhi, highlighting key initiatives, clinical outcomes, and collaborative research efforts.
The visit reflects continued efforts to strengthen Siddha services and integrative healthcare research in central institutions.

National Institute of Siddha (NIS) Reels & Video Competition 2026!

The National Institute of Siddha (Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India, Tambaram Sanatorium, Chennai-47) announces REELS COMPETITION & VIDEO COMPETITION for Siddha students!

Theme: Siddha Concepts for Modern Life. Dates: April 27, 2026 to May 18, 2026. Join "CREATE CAPTURE CONNECT" to spread Siddha wisdom digitally!

Objectives
Promote core Siddha principles via modern Reels format.
Raise public awareness on preventive and lifestyle healthcare.
Encourage creativity among BSMS students and PG Scholars.
Eligibility
Siddha students only (UG Students & PG Scholars).
Team participation.
Methodology
UG Students: Each class divided into 10 groups (6 members each). Select one approved topic under the theme and prepare Reels per format.
PG Scholars: Per department, prepare video on departmental activities, innovations, special services, outreach, research, awareness campaigns, etc.

Reel Specifications
Duration: 30-90 seconds (strict).
Format: Vertical 9:16 Reel format.
Resolution: Minimum Full HD (1080x1920).
File Type: MP4.
Language: Tamil, English, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam (Subtitles recommended).
Focus on ONE clear Siddha concept per Reel.

Duration: 6 minutes (strict).
Format: MP4, HD quality (1080p or higher).
Content: Original only (no plagiarism/copyright); accurate Siddha representation; engaging narration.

🌿 *Historic MoU Signed at CIHTS, Sarnath* 🌿

*National Institute of Siddha, Chennai* is proud to announce a significant milestone in integrative medicine! 🤝

During the *26th Meeting of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM)* held on *22nd April 2026* at the *Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS), Sarnath*, a *Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)* was formally signed between *CIHTS, Sarnath* and *NIS, Chennai*.

✨ *Focus of the MoU:*
Promoting *joint education and research* in the fields of *Sowa-Rigpa* and *Siddha systems of medicine* – bridging two ancient, time-tested Indian medical traditions for global health and wellness.

The meeting was held at the request of NCISM and hosted by CIHTS. *Prof. W. D. Negi*, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CIHTS welcomed the distinguished guests in traditional style and highlighted CIHTS initiatives.

*Dr. Manisha Upendra Kothekar*, President, NCISM, along with other Commission members shared valuable perspectives during the interaction session.

*Prof. Dr. G. Senthilvel, Director, National Institute of Siddha* actively participated in this landmark event and represented NIS for the MoU signing.

*Dr. Sunita Chandra*, Registrar, CIHTS expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Commission for choosing CIHTS as the venue. The program was successfully conducted by *Dr. Mahesh Sharma* in the presence of the Deputy Registrar, Assistant Registrar, all Deans, and Heads of Departments.

This MoU marks a new chapter of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and research excellence between *Sowa-Rigpa* and *Siddha* – strengthening Ayush systems for the future. 🌱

Siddha Clinical Research Unit, New Delhi, Conducts 5th Institutional Human Ethics Committee Meeting

The Siddha Clinical Research Unit (SCRU), New Delhi, successfully conducted its 5th Institutional Human Ethics Committee (IHEC) meeting, marking an important milestone in strengthening ethical clinical research in the Siddha system of medicine.
The meeting signifies the effective constitution and functioning of the Institutional Human Ethics Committee, ensuring that all clinical research activities uphold ethical principles and priorities patient safety, rights, and well-being.
The meeting was presided over by Dr. Jugal Kishore, Chairperson of IHEC, SCRU, New Delhi. Dr. R. Susila, Member Secretary, extended the welcome and coordinated the proceedings.
During the meeting, four research proposals focusing on the clinical evaluation and safety of Siddha formulations were reviewed. All discussions adhered to national ethical guidelines, ensuring scientific integrity and transparency.
Active participation from all committee members contributed to a rigorous and meaningful review process.
The successful conduct of the IHEC meeting highlights SCRU’s dedication to strengthening evidence-based Siddha research with a firm commitment to ethical practices.

👶🧠 Poshan Pakwada 2026 – Awareness Session at SCRI

As part of the observance of Poshan Pakwada, an awareness session was conducted on 19.03.2026 for the parents and family members at the Siddha Central Research Institute (SCRI), Chennai.

Dr. A. Usha, Research Officer (Siddha), delivered an informative session on the topic “Early Stimulation for Brain Development (0–3 years)”. She highlighted the crucial role of early stimulation in shaping a child’s cognitive and emotional development, along with the importance of proper nutrition during the formative years.

The session emphasized how attentive care, balanced nutrition, and a nurturing environment contribute significantly to healthy brain development in young children.

🌍 Observance of World Health Day 2026

World Health Day was observed at the Siddha Central Research Institute (SCRI), Chennai, on April 7, 2026, in the OPD premises, as per the instructions from CCRS.

The program was coordinated by Dr. P. Elankani, RO (Siddha), S-IV & HOD, DCR, and Dr. C. Anbarasi, Research Officer (Siddha), who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of the day.

Smt. R. K. Sathya delivered the welcome address and introduced this year’s theme, “Together for Health – Stand with Science”, setting the tone for the event.

Smt. K. Karthika spoke on “Together for Health”, emphasizing the One Health Approach and the vital connection between human, animal, and environmental health.
Smt. D. Jeevarani elaborated on “Stand with Science”, highlighting the importance of scientific research, evidence-based practices, and public trust in advancing global health.
Sh. V. Dayalan reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining health and well-being through the Siddha way of life.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, organizers, and participants for making the event meaningful and successful.

On the occasion of World Liver Day (April 19, 2026), the Department of Maruthuvam, National Institute of Siddha, under the esteemed guidance of Director Prof. Dr. G. Senthilvel and Head of the Department Prof. Dr. H. Vetha Merlin Kumari, successfully organized a comprehensive public awareness program—"Solid Habits; Strong Liver"—and academic session on liver health from modern and Siddha perspectives on April 21, 2026, from 12 noon to 1 PM.

The event saw active participation from 75 members of the public, along with 30 postgraduate scholars and medical officers, reflecting strong commitment to preventive healthcare and knowledge dissemination.

The session began with an insightful introduction by Dr. Lavanya (Intern, Velumaiyilu Siddha Medical College), highlighting the global significance of liver health and the need for early lifestyle interventions.

Hospital Superintendent Dr. Radhika Madhavan, an accomplished alumnus of the Department of Maruthuvam, National Institute of Siddha, with notable postgraduate research in alcohol de-addiction (Kudiverinoi), delivered a thought-provoking address emphasizing:

The therapeutic value of traditional Siddha approaches like Karumbu Chaaru (sugarcane juice) and Seenthil, Parpadagam Kudineer for liver support.

The importance of regular oil baths in maintaining systemic balance.

The role of thiamine deficiency in liver disease and its impact on neurological development.

Nutritional insights, highlighting quail (Kaadai) as a rich source of thiamine and the benefits of Kaadai Nei for psychological well-being.

The academic segment featured valuable research presentations by postgraduate scholars:

Dr. Suma on fatty liver disease, focusing on its rising prevalence linked to sedentary lifestyles, metabolic syndrome, and the role of early dietary Siddha-based interventions in reversing hepatic steatosis, including the effect of Mandoorathi Kudineer.

Dr. Nisha on cholelithiasis (gallstone disease), discussing its pathophysiology, risk factors like obesity and dietary habits, and integrative management strategies including preventive nutrition, traditional remedies, and the combined effect of Siddha medicines.

NIS interns from Velumaiyilu Siddha Medical College delivered concise presentations:

Dr. Niranjana on jaundice, describing it as yellow discoloration of skin and sclera due to elevated bilirubin from liver dysfunction, hemolysis, or biliary obstruction, correlating with Pitham imbalance in Siddha medicine.

Dr. Kavya on hepatitis, an inflammatory liver condition caused by viral infections, alcohol, autoimmune factors, and metabolic disorders, with significant global burden and preventable outcomes via awareness and vaccination.

Dr. Monica on liver carcinoma, emphasizing its progression from chronic liver disease like cirrhosis, and diagnostic tools such as liver function tests, alpha-fetoprotein, imaging (USG, CT, MRI), and biopsy for early detection.

The program concluded with a strong message on preventive healthcare, dietary discipline, and integrating Siddha principles for liver health. This initiative marks a meaningful step toward community awareness and healthier lifestyles for liver wellness.
