When stories heal more than words ✨

On 24th Aug, our Support Group Meetup became a beautiful space where hope met reality. 💙
Those who are dreaming of a healthier tomorrow sat side by side with patients who are already living their transformation after bariatric surgery. Their inspiring journeys, filled with joy, courage, and new beginnings, touched every heart in the room.

The session was led by none other than our bariatric expert Dr. Anand Patel, who shared valuable guidance and answered queries with compassion and clarity.

Because real change isn’t just about surgery, it’s about community, support, and the confidence to embrace a new life.

❓ Just had a hernia surgery and confused about recovery? Let’s clear some common myths

If you’ve recently undergone hernia surgery, it’s natural to have questions. Many myths still circulate about recovery and lifestyle changes after surgery. Let’s clear them one by one:

1️⃣ Myth: “I should take complete bed rest after surgery.”
✅ Fact: You don’t need to stay in bed for weeks. In reality, you can start walking within 6 hours of surgery. Most patients resume office work in 3 days, and within 7 days you can return to your normal routine.

2️⃣ Myth: “Hernia surgery should be done without mesh.”
✅ Fact: Mesh reinforcement is actually what makes hernia surgery safer and more effective. It significantly reduces the chances of recurrence. Mesh removal is rarely needed, only in cases of infection or chronic pain.

3️⃣ Myth: “If I lift even a little weight, my hernia will come back immediately.”
✅ Fact: With modern laparoscopic hernia surgery, a large mesh is placed for support. As long as you avoid unusual strain in the first week and maintain a healthy weight, the risk of hernia coming back is very low.

Hernia surgery today is advanced, minimally invasive, and offers faster recovery than ever before. Don’t let myths hold you back from healing and living a normal life.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where we’ll cover more myths and facts about hernia surgery.

Acidity isn’t just about medicines, it’s about what’s on your plate.
Acidity is not just about discomfort, it’s your body’s way of telling you something is wrong with your food habits. If you often feel burning in the chest, heaviness after meals, or nausea, it’s time to look at your diet, not just medicines.
Here are some diet tips to control acidity naturally:
Know your triggers – Spicy food, heavy masalas, too much garlic/onion, or citrus fruits can worsen acidity.

Choose alkaline foods – Bottle gourd, oats, sweet fruits, homemade curd, or buttermilk soothe your stomach.

Eat small & frequent meals – Avoid overeating in one go.

Chew properly – 32 teeth for a reason, chew well to help digestion.

Don’t lie down immediately after eating – Give your stomach time to settle.

Stay hydrated – Water helps keep acid levels in check.

Medicines may give you short-term relief, but the right diet ensures lifetime relief.

What does “diet” really mean?

It’s not about one bowl of food or counting every gram. Today, everywhere, Google, Instagram, magazines, you’ll find endless “diet tips.” But the truth is simple: your diet should be what suits your body.

Real diet = fresh, home-cooked meals, just like our grandparents ate.
❌ Not crash diets. Not random portion sizes.
✅ Balanced food that nourishes you, supports your health, and fits your lifestyle.

The right diet is not one-size-fits-all. Always consult your dietitian, trust their guidance, and choose what works for you.

If you have questions about your diet, we at Novarise Gastro & Bariatrics are here to help. 💙

Bariatric surgery: treating more than weight loss.

Bariatric surgery not only promotes weight loss but also tackles the root causes of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

✅ Reduces fat deposits on the liver
✅ Improves insulin sensitivity and lowers resistance
✅ Decreases inflammation markers (TNF-alpha, CRP) to halt liver damage
✅ Promotes healing – with studies showing 80–90% improvement, and even complete resolution in some cases.

If your fatty liver is linked with obesity, diabetes, or PCOS and is not improving with lifestyle changes, bariatric surgery can be a life-changing option.

Even with heart disease, the right weight-loss surgery can be life-changing.

In selected elderly patients, including those with cardiac conditions, bariatric surgery can be performed safely, provided they are fit for anesthesia and cleared medically.

Excess body weight places significant strain on the heart, leading to elevated blood pressure, reduced breathing capacity, and increased cardiovascular risk. Surgical weight loss can help reduce this burden, improve blood pressure control, and enhance overall cardiac function.

In this video, we share the case of a 74-year-old patient who was on 21 medications daily and experienced severe mobility limitations. Following bariatric surgery, his quality of life and health outcomes have improved significantly.

Feeling uneasy after meals post-gastric bypass? It might be Dumping Syndrome.

If you experience sweating, bloating, nausea, or fatigue soon after eating, don’t ignore it, it could be your body signaling a dumping episode.

After bypass surgery, sugary foods can rush into the intestine too quickly, causing a sudden shift in fluid and blood sugar levels.
This leads to two phases:

Early dumping – abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea
Late dumping – low sugar, weakness, sweating

Simple changes can help:
✔️ Avoid sugary, high-GI foods
✔️ Eat more fiber and complex carbs
✔️ Rest after meals
✔️ Talk to your bariatric surgeon or nutritionist if it persists
