Grief is the experience of being changed by loss. It says to us,
“There was a ‘before this happened’ and an ‘after this happened! I will move forward, but I will never be the same.”
Writing about our difficult emotions, including grief, can help us move forward in healthy ways. When we put our difficult experiences into language, research shows that it has an organizing effect. It allows us to see not only the difficult parts of the experience, but what we might have learned or gained, and it helps us to process it.
changes us. It rewrites us. And we in turn rewrite our lives with it.

isn’t automatic.
It’s something people learn over time.
And you can develop it too. Here’s how:
1) Practice -awareness.
- Notice your emotional triggers throughout the day.
- Check in with how you’re feeling-often.
2) before .
- Take a before responding to .
→ Think through the impact of your words.
3) Use -talk.
“I can’t handle this” into “I can handle this.”
- Remind yourself of your and past wins.
4) healthy coping .
L Use deep breathing when you’re .
L Take quick breaks to reset your mind.
5) Set .
- Say no when requests cross your limits.
→ Define your work hours and stick to them.
6) Practice .
L Try to others’ emotions.
- Acknowledge their feelings to build rapport.
7) Focus on , not .
- Break big problems into manageable steps.
- Ask,
• “What can I do to solve this?”
8) Take breaks.
- Step away when you feel drained.
- Use breaks for a quick mental recharge.
9) Seek support when needed.
- Talk to mentors or trusted colleagues for advice.
- Share your feelings with someone who listens.
Emotional control isn’t something you’re born with.
It’s a skill you develop by practicing these habits daily.
You can’t control everything at work.
But you can always control how you respond.
Mastering your emotions is a choice.
It’s not easy, but it’s always worth it.
