A beautiful message today morning by my client overseas 😍🤞

Our inner child is a part of ourselves that’s been present ever since we were conceived, through utero and all the developing years after where we were young and developing into tender selves: baby, infant, toddler, young child and middle school year.

The inner child can often recall good experiences as well as childhood fears, traumas, neglect or significant loss. It can be hard to pinpoint the exact event that is tugging at us, but we can start to notice our internal patterns that have left us a subconscious “bread crumb trails” when we start to explore our inner world.

There are thousands of ups and downs in our life but never let this inner child die.

Childhood trauma leads to its death!

If a child misbehaves, it must be because the mom isn't enforcing the rules.

If a child’s watching an iPad, the mom must be lazy and not want to deal with her kid.

If a child’s in a whirlwind of tears after her mom yelled at her, her mom doesn’t have enough patience to be a mother.

If a child’s eating candy at the grocery store, his mom must spoil him.

If a child gets into her mother’s lipstick and puts it all over her face, her mother should have been watching.

It doesn't matter what happens. It must be because of the “bad mother.”

And it’s unfair. Moms love too much and try too hard for that narrative to be so overplayed.

Because the truth is,
maybe the mom, who wasn't "watching her kid," was on an important work call.
Maybe the mom with “no patience” was just having a bad day.
Maybe the mom “not enforcing the rules” really has a child with ADHD.
Maybe the “lazy” mom who gave her child an iPad just needed a thirty-minute break after being non-stop all day.

Motherhood’s hard.
And every day, we're faced with decisions on how to parent our children: from what to feed them to how to discipline them, etc.

And no two moms are ever going to parent exactly alike.
We're humans and individuals with different histories, temperaments, and different children to parent.

BOTTOM LINE: WE DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT TO MOM SHAME ANYONE, EVER.

SO DON’T.

(2023: the year of carefully chosen mirrors)

if you don't like
the way that you
look it's probably
because you have
chosen the wrong
mirror to look at
yourself in

stop using other people as a mirror
to see your reflection in

- especially if that other person is unkind

unkind people make the worst mirrors
they only want to reflect back your blemishes

and your weaknesses
and your fault lines
and your sins

don't blame them for making you feel bad
you are the one looking for them
to tell you how you look

of course, they will tell you that you're ugly
of course, they will say you aren’t enough

they are unkind- what did you expect?

while we are at it...
you should also
stop using your
bank account as a mirror

it's a liar
it doesn't really show
you who you really are

neither does your car
or your grades
or your awards
or your Instagram
or your past mistakes
or your diagnosis
or your late bills
or your failures

none of those things make very good mirrors

If you want to know how you actually look I suggest that you hold a baby for a bit.
Pay attention to how a baby will look at you. To a baby you are a garden of a million glowing pastel moon flowers. You are a wonder. You are exotic.
To a baby, you are a giant. You are an ancient warrior protecting them from monsters and uncomfortable rashes. You fill up their sky like a brilliant supernova. You are the sky and sea.

To a baby laying in your arms, you are both the cradle and the lullaby. A baby will gaze at you with wide eyes and an uncontrollable smile because they have just come from heaven and they know divinely crafted beauty when they see it.

They see the miracle in you. They see the miracle in you. They see the miracle in you.

Babies make the best mirrors. Look at your reflection the EXACT way a baby looks at you.For too long you have let dirty and broken shards of glass tell you who you are.

Those reflections are corrupt - stop trusting them.
Let the innocent show you who you are. They see your light. They see you for who you are:

Capable
Strong
Beautiful
Burning
Blooming
Becoming
