When determining whether a man is a predator or protector, look at his actions to tell you the truth of who he is. All men have the capacity to be predators, but not all men are protectors. What's the difference? Protectors are fierce, brave, honest, strong, and most of all, empathetic and caring. Predators can be fierce and strong or even cowardly, but most importantly, they lack compassion for others and perceive them as weak and as prey.
While many women are often instinctually attracted to predators, it's not until the predator turns on them that they realize their mistake and yet are still hopelessly addicted to them despite the abuse.
Some common behaviors of predators:
1. Love bombing to emotionally manipulate you into trusting him before you know the real truth about him.
2. Gaslighting to make you question your judgement and lower your self worth, credibility and confidence.
3. Minimizes and is dismissive of your feelings, needs and opinions by ridiculing or ignoring you.
4. Grooms you to take care of him and punishes you for asking for what you want or standing up to him.
5. Looks or stares at you with contempt, disgust or anger. Acts intimidating or tries to dominate you verbally, mentally or physically. Overly jealous and possessive.
6. Gets turned on by your emotional vulnerability, sadness, pain or grief & uses it as an opportunity to try to have s*x with you.
What a protector is:
1. Someone who stands up to predators and defends the weak or vulnerable.
2. Doesn't take his frustrations out on you or get defensive but rather is patient, supportive and understanding.
3. Always respects you and your boundaries and doesn't get angry when he doesn't get what he wants.
4. Prioritizes your feelings over his discomfort or fear.
5. Goes out of his way just to make sure that you're okay without asking for anything in return.
6. ALWAYS makes you feel safe and protects you when you feel vulnerable. Leads with his heart.
Don't be taken in by words or feelings, feelings are not facts, watch the behaviors. In a world full of predators, wouldn't you rather have a protector by your side?
