| Bone And Joint Awareness Week

Bone health is one of the most neglected aspects of healthcare in India. According to a report published by the International Osteoporosis Foundation in 2013, approximately 80 percent of the urban Indian population is vitamin D deficient.

In 2012, the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA) announced that 4 August 2020 will be observed as Bone and Joint Day with a focus on promoting awareness about bone health. The IOA conducts week-long activities from 1 to 7 August which is also considered to be Bone and Joint Week. During this week, surgeons and doctors conduct public awareness programmes in their respective states to teach the public about the increasing impact of bone and joint disorders and the ways to prevent and treat them. Dibrugarh Orthopaedic Society also perform free Bone Mineral Density (BMD), free Uric acid testing and free surgeries for some underprivileged patients.

Dr. Ananta Saikia , President and Dr.Premananda Das, Secretary of Dibrugarh orthopaedic society with all the members of the society initiated the programme.
