The nationwide programme under central sector scheme funded by Ministry of AYUSH, New Delhi for ASU & H drugs to establish and manage a data base of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) for developing system wise database of adverse drug reactions and evolving evidence based recommendations towards clinical safety of ASU & H Drugs. Besides this the program also undertake surveillance of objectionable or misleading advertisements.

National Pharmacovigilance Coordination Centre (NPvCC):

It is a tertiary pharmacovigilance centre, acting as the National Centre in the administrative structure of the program.

*Announcement: Infographic Competition Submission Date Extended*

We are excited to see the enthusiasm for the Infographic Competition! Due to time constraints and increased interest from participants, we are postponing the last date from *23rd September 2024* to *30th September 2024*. This extension will allow more individuals to join and showcase their creativity.

An *Infograph* (or infographic) is a visual representation of information, data, or knowledge designed to present complex concepts quickly and clearly. It combines text, graphics, and data visualizations (such as charts, graphs, and icons) to communicate information efficiently, making it more engaging and easier to understand.

# # # Key Components of an Infographic:
1. *Title*: A clear and concise headline that introduces the topic.
2. *Graphics*: Icons, illustrations, and images that represent key ideas visually.
3. *Text*: Short and focused text sections that explain the visual elements.
4. *Data Visualization*: Charts, graphs, and tables to represent numerical data.
5. *Structure*: A logical flow or hierarchy that guides the viewer through the information.

# # # Steps to Create an Infographic:

1. *Choose a Topic*
- Pick a clear, focused subject you want to communicate (e.g., “Pharmacovigilance in AYUSH”).

2. *Gather Data and Information*
- Collect relevant data, facts, and figures that will support your main message.
- Make sure your sources are credible.

3. *Decide on the Structure*
- Plan the flow of information, breaking it down into sections like introduction, key points, and conclusion.

4. *Choose the Right Design Tool*
- Use online tools like *Canva, **Piktochart, or **Adobe Spark* for beginners, or more advanced software like *Adobe Illustrator* if you have design experience.

5. *Create a Layout*
- Arrange your content in a balanced way, keeping it visually appealing with enough space between elements.
- Ensure the design follows a logical path so viewers can easily follow along.

6. *Use Visuals*
- Incorporate icons, graphs, or images that support and clarify your message.
- Use contrasting colors to highlight important information and maintain readability.

7. *Keep it Simple*
- Focus on key points, avoiding overcrowding with too much text or complex data.
- Use a consistent font style, size, and color scheme to maintain visual harmony.

8. *Review and Edit*
- Proofread the text for errors and ensure all data is accurate.
- Check the infographic’s readability and make sure all visual elements are aligned properly.

Nee of the hour - Pharmacovigilance:

Pharmacovigilance (PV) plays a key role in the healthcare system through assessment, monitoring and discovery of interactions amongst drugs and their effects in humans.

Pharmaceutical medicines are designed to cure, prevent or treat diseases; however, there are also risks particularly adverse drug reactions (ADRs) can cause serious harm to patients. Thus, for safety medication ADRs monitoring required for each medicine throughout its life cycle, during development of drugs such as pre-marketing including early stages of drug design, clinical trials, and post-marketing surveillance.

PV is concerns with the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of ADRs. Pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics are an indispensable part of the clinical research. Variation in the human genome is a cause of variable response to drugs and susceptibility to diseases are determined, which is important for early drug discovery to PV.

Moreover, PV has traditionally involved in mining spontaneous reports submitted to national surveillance systems. The research focus is shifting toward the use of data generated from platforms outside the conventional framework such as electronic medical records, biomedical literature, and patient-reported data in health forums.

The emerging trend in PV is to link premarketing data with human safety information observed in the post-marketing phase. The PV system team obtains valuable additional information, building up the scientific data contained in the original report and making it more informative. This necessitates an utmost requirement for effective regulations of the drug approval process and conscious pre and post approval vigilance of the undesired effects, especially in India.

Adverse events reported by PV system potentially benefit to the community due to their proximity to both population and public health practitioners, in terms of language and knowledge, enables easy contact with reporters by electronically. Hence, PV helps to the patients get well and to manage optimally or ideally, avoid illness is a collective responsibility of industry, drug regulators, clinicians and other healthcare professionals to enhance their contribution to public health.
