High blood pressure (hypertension) can damage many organs of the body and cause many serious illnesses. The main diseases associated with it are as follows:
1. Diseases of the heart:
• Heart Attack: High blood pressure increases pressure on the heart arteries, which can shrink blood vessels and increase the risk of heart attack.
• Heart Failure (Heart Failure): The heart has to work harder, which can cause the heart to be weaker.
• Angina: A problem of chest pain or discomfort.
2. The stroke:
• High blood pressure puts pressure on the brain's arteries, which can lead to a blood vessel rupture (hemergic stroke) or a blood pressure (ischemic stroke).
3. Kidney diseases:
• Kidney Failure: Prolonged high blood pressure damages the blood vessels of the kidneys, affecting kidney function.
• Kidney Stone or Infection: Blood pressure can affect kidney function.
4. Eye problems:
• Hypertensive retinopathy: High blood pressure causes damage to the blood vessels in the eye, which can lead to vision impairment or blindness.
5. Diseases of the arteries:
• Aneurysm: When the walls of the arteries are weakened, they can swell, posing a risk of rupture.
• Peripheral Artery Disease: Blood flow to the feet or other organs can be reduced.
6. Mental health:
• Dementia or Alzheimer's: High blood pressure can cause a decrease in blood supply to the brain, impacting memory and thinking ability.
7. Other issues:
• Metabolic Syndrome: High blood pressure can be linked to sugar, obesity and cholesterol problems.
• Sexual health: can cause impotency in men and a lack of sexual desire in women.
