Shri Dipjyoti Mahanta, a distinguished academic, accomplished professional, and a deeply compassionate human being, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on January 9, 2026, at his residence in Jyotinagar, Guwahati.
Born to late Shri Basudev Mahanta and late Smt. Kusum Kumari Mahanta, he was their only child. He spent his early childhood years in Shillong and completed his schooling at Don Bosco School, Panbazar, Guwahati - an institution he fondly cherished throughout his life.
A scholar of exceptional merit, Shri Mahanta stood First Class First and was awarded the Gold Medal in Anthropology during his Master’s degree from Gauhati University. Driven by a passion for understanding people and institutions, he went on to earn a Master’s degree in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. Furthering his academic excellence on a global platform, he was among the select few to receive the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship, under which he pursued his MBA in Human Resource Management from the University of Hull, United Kingdom.
He devoted nearly three decades of his professional life to the Bongaigaon Refinery Petrochemicals Limited and ultimately retired from active service as General Manager (HR) from Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL), Namrup. Known for his integrity, fairness, and humane leadership, he earned deep respect from colleagues and subordinates alike.
Beyond his professional and academic achievements, Shri Dipjyoti Mahanta was a pure soul - a loving father, a devoted son, and an exceptionally caring and affectionate husband. His life was anchored in values of humility, compassion, and quiet strength.
He is survived by his wife, Smt. Giti Rekha Mahanta; his two daughters - Dr. Dimpy Mahanta and Ms. Leoni Mahanta, his son-in-law, Shri Ambarish Barman; and his beloved granddaughter, Vedanshi Priyadarshini. His last rites were performed at the Nabagraha Crematorium on January 10, 2026.
With his passing, the family has lost a guiding light, and the world, a life lived with quiet excellence and grace. He leaves behind an indelible void that words cannot fill, and memories that will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
May the pious soul rest in eternal peace 🙏
Om Shanti. 🕊️
