Burns are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Though the exact incidence of burns in India is not known, on a crude estimate, it is believed that more that 3 million people suffer from burns, one million of them require hospitalization and more than 100000 die every year. 75% of these burn injuries occur at home and 80% of the victims are the women and children. To treat such a large number of patients, we have only 60 Burn Care Units throughout the country, which can treat only 10000 patients per year. It is a matter of regret that burn injured patients are yet to get the due attention they deserve from all concerned. Through this page, we would like to make the general public aware of the various aspects of burn injuries and it's prevention.
