In my short experience of 15 years in cardiac surgery, I have often endured the pain of seeing a child turn into a patient with an incurable heart disease. What makes it even more agonizing is that many of these children were born with simple congenital heart defects that were both treatable and permanently curable. Only thing they needed was a timely diagnosis and prompt treatment.

Sadly, treatment was delayed for two common reasons:
1. Parents were unaware that their child was suffering from a congenital heart disease.
2. They were wrongly advised that “the hole will heal on its own.”

In this video, I will try to focus on the first issue—lack of knowledge.

Here are the common warning symptoms of heart disease in small children.

मेरे 15 वर्षों के हृदय शल्य चिकित्सा के छोटे से अनुभव में, अनेकों बार मुझे एक नन्हे से बच्चे को असाध्य हृदय रोग से ग्रसित रोगी बना हुआ देखने की पीड़ा झेलनी पड़ी है।सबसे अधिक कष्टदायक तथ्य यह है कि इन बच्चों को अत्यंत सरल जन्मजात हृदय रोग थे, जो वास्तव में आसानी से और सदा के लिए पूर्णतः ठीक हो सकते थे।उन्हें मात्र सही समय पर पहचान और उचित समय पर उपचार की आवश्यकता थी।

दुर्भाग्यवश, उपचार में विलंब होने के दो मुख्य कारण रहे:
1. माता-पिता को पता ही नहीं चला कि उनके बच्चे को जन्मजात हृदय रोग है।
2. उन्हें मिथ्या परामर्श दी गई कि “छेद अपने-आप भर जाएगा।”

इस वीडियो में मैं पहले कारण — सूचना के आभाव — को संबोधित करना चाहता हूँ।

यहाँ छोटे बच्चों में हृदय रोग के कुछ सामान्य लक्षणों का संछिप्त विवरण दिया जा रहा है।

When I began recording the very first episode of my “Traffic ki Pathshala”, I paused for a moment.

Many of my friends already talk in great detail about heart diseases—covering complex, technical topics. Should I really start with something as basic as “the symptoms of heart disease”? Why not post something more ‘technical’, I thought.
(For a doctor, technical usually means a complicated medical condition.)

But then I remembered—whether at my free heart check-up camps in Jharkhand or at my clinic in Delhi’s posh colonies—so many patients come to me after ignoring their symptoms for years. By then, the disease has often advanced so much that treatment becomes far more difficult.

That’s why, in this very first episode of "Traffic Ki Pathshala", I am talking about the main symptoms of heart disease in adults।

If you or someone you know has any of these symptoms—don’t wait. See a specialist immediately.

जब मैंने “ट्रैफ़िक की पाठशाला” का पहला वीडियो रिकॉर्ड करना प्रारंभ किया, तो मैं थोड़ा ठिठक गया।

मेरे कई मित्र पहले से ही हृदय रोगों से संबंधित कई जटिल विषयों पर चर्चा कर रहे हैं — तो क्या मुझे ‘हृदय रोगों के लक्षण’ जैसे मूलभूत विषय बिंदु पर चर्चा करनी चाहिए? सोचा क्यों न किसी अधिक ‘तकनीकी’ विषय पर चर्चा की जाये?
(डॉक्टर के लिए “तकनीकी का अर्थ हुआ कोई जटिल रोग)

परंतु फिर मुझे स्मरण हुआ —चाहे झारखंड के मेरे निःशुल्क हृदय रोग जांच शिविर के रोगी हों या दिल्ली की पॉश कॉलोनियों के रोगी — प्रायः वे अपने लक्षणों की वर्षों तक उपेक्षा करते हैं और तब परामर्श लेने आते हैं जब रोग अत्यंत बढ़ चुका होता है, एवं उपचार अत्यंत कठिन हो चुका होता है।

इसीलिए इस “ट्रैफिक के पाठशाला” के इस पहले अंक में, मैं वयस्कों में हृदय रोगों के मुख्य लक्षणों पर संक्षेप में चर्चा कर रहा हूँ।

अगर आपको या आपके किसी परिचित को इनमें से कोई भी लक्षण हैं—तो विलंब न करें, अविलंब किसी विशेषज्ञ से परामर्श करें।

Stuck for hours in the sluggish Delhi–Gurgaon–Delhi (and now Delhi–Ghaziabad–Delhi) traffic — twice a day, day after day every day — I’ve done it all: slept, scrolled, gossiped on call, read a bit, fumed a lot, and yes… even sworn more than I’d like to admit.

But finally, I decided to put this time to better use — by recording (and editing) videos for YouTube.
