ENT stands for ears, nose and throat and otolaryngologist is the medical expert who specialises in treating ENT disorders. If these sensory organs do not work properly then it may affect the quality of your life.

4 most common ENT disorders that you should be aware of:

1. Tonsillitis: It is an infection of the tonsils which causes severe throat pain. This condition is caused by the common cold, mono, or strep throat. In cases of severe infection and inflammation when persisted for a longer period demands surgical treatment.

The condition is most prevalent among children, in fact, is one of the most common childhood diseases. Its symptoms may include fever and balance problems.

3. Sinus infection: Sinuses can be defined as cavities in the skull that surround the eyes and nose and are responsible for vocal resonance. It occurs when these cavities become infected by a bacteria or virus or inflamed due to allergies or other conditions.

4. Sleep apnea: This condition is equally prevalent in both adults and children. It can be defined as a brief cessation of breathing while you are asleep. The two main causes behind the same are being overweight and having a naturally shorter airway than usual.

8 Tips To Keep Your Throat Clear In Winters

Winter calls for a sore and dry throat followed by a dry cough. Whether you are a singer, voice-over artist, or a normal individual, check out the tips shared by doctors that will help you keep your throat warm and comfortable.

Nasal Breathing : Doctors recommends that breathing through the nose filters dust and other allergens, and naturally humidifies the inhaled air.

Use steam: Doctors said that inhaling dry, cold air can cause dryness in the vocal tissues. He suggests trying to use a humidifier or steamer. Inhaling steam from a warm shower also helps.

Stay Hydrated: Doctors recommends drinking plenty of healthy fluids to hydrate your body as it lubricates your vocal folds, and decreases irritation that causes coughing episodes.

Try lozenges: Doctors suggests using ingredients like mulethi, clove, manuka honey, fennel etc., which can help combat dry mouth. He suggests avoiding antihistamines and mint.

Vocal Exercises: Adding vocal warm-up and cool-down before and after any vocal activity is recommended; like lip and tongue trills, or humming with pitch glides.

Wear A Mask:

Limit Outdoor Activity: Stay indoors during peak pollution hours, usually early morning and late evening when smog is most intense.

Reasons You Need Septoplasty

Contact an ENT If You Have Nasal Breathing Issues

The septum is the vertical column of bone and cartilage that divides the nostrils, and it can obscure one or both of your nasal airways if it is crooked or off-center. This condition may be noticeable to the naked eye, resulting in a C or S shaped septum.

The reality is that many people don’t experience any symptoms when they have a deviated septum. However, those who do experience symptoms will need to undergo deviated septum repair in Los Angeles.

Our ENT specialists for deviated septums explain below the different reasons why someone might choose to have surgery to fix this issue.

1. Difficulty in Breathing
2. Nose bledding
3. Sinus infection
4. Headaches
5. Disturbance in sleep
6. Nasal obstruction
7. Septum hole
8. Smell disruption
9. Nose shape
10. Numbness

8 Easy Eye Exercises to Improve Vision: Techniques and Tips

We know that exercising our muscles is good for our health. What about eye exercises to improve eyesight?

Exercise for your eyes, traditionally in the form of vision therapy, can help to ensure that the two eyes work together effectively.

Palming: Palming is a yogic eye exercise, suggesting relaxing the muscles around the eyes, reducing eye fatigue.

Blinking: When we spend time on digital devices, our blink rate slows down. This can cause the eyes to dry out, making them feel sandy, gritty, and tired.

Pencil Push-ups: Pencil push-ups are commonly used to train the eyes to move in toward one another or converge when looking at a near object.

Brock String: The Brock String was developed by Frederick Brock of Switzerland, a pioneer in vision therapy. It can be used for a variety of exercises to train the visual system.

Barrel Card: The barrel card trains the eyes to turn in together, or converge, to view a near object.

Tips to Prevent Ear Infections

If you watch over a young child, you probably know how common earaches can be.You can’t always stop all ear infections. But you can learn what causes them and then take steps to lower the chances that you or a child in your care will get them.

Ear infections tend to occur more in fall and winter because upper-respiratory infections such as cold and flu are on the rise then, too. Children who are 2 and younger get more ear infections because of the small size and shape of their Eustachian tubes.

Tips

These things can help reduce the number of infections your child may get:

Breastfeeding: Babies who nurse for 12 months or more tend to have fewer infections. If breastfeeding isn’t an option, bottle feed your child in an upright, sitting position.

Fresh air: Don’t expose your baby to cigarette smoke. Try to avoid other forms of air pollution, too, when you can.

Immunizations: Keep up to date on your child’s shots.

Here are some tips to help you handle Delhi pollution

Wear a mask: Wear an N95 pollution mask when you're outdoors.

Stay indoors: Stay inside as much as possible, especially when pollution levels are high.

Use an air purifier: Use an air purifier in your home or office to help remove pollutants from the air. HEPA air purifiers can trap 99.9% of pollutants.

Monitor air quality: Check the air quality daily.

Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help your body flush out toxins.

Eat antioxidant-rich foods: Eat a diet rich in antioxidants to help lower the harmful cardiovascular effects of air pollution.

Avoid strenuous exercise: When pollution levels are high, avoid outdoor activities like running, jogging, or walking. Physical exertion increases your breathing rate, which can lead to more exposure to harmful pollutants.

Plant indoor air purifying plants: Plants can help purify polluted air.
Ventilate properly: Good ventilation can help minimize the health risk from indoor air pollution.

3 Reasons You Shouldn't Ignore Snoring

Not everyone who snores has a health problem, particularly when snoring is occasional and disturbs no one. However, snoring is often a symptom of a potentially serious sleep disorder that could lead to other chronic health issues.

Here are three reasons why you shouldn’t ignore snoring.

Snoring ruins sleep: You may not be aware that snoring is disturbing your sleep cycle. Your sleep has patterns that are essential for your body’s repair and revitalization, and if these cycles don’t progress in a normal and healthy way, long-term effects can be worse than gaining weight or having high cholesterol.

It lowers blood oxygen: Since air can’t get to your lungs efficiently while you’re snoring, blood oxygen levels can drop. Your body responds to low blood oxygen by pumping blood harder, creating high blood pressure. This can lead to aneurysms, hardening of the arteries, and thickened heart muscles.

Snoring causes chronic health issues: If heart disease, high blood pressure, and hardened arteries aren’t enough, OSA can result from, as well as cause, chronic health conditions like Type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, stroke, and dementia.
