Trauma-informed yoga has become a buzzword, but I believe it’s crucial to define it clearly to maintain integrity and understanding.

Here’s a distinction I find helpful:
“Trauma-AWARE” or “Trauma-SENSITIVE” means recognizing the presence and impact of trauma and consciously creating a space that avoids re-traumatization.

In contrast, being “Trauma-INFORMED” involves specialized formal training and the ability to implement specific strategies that effectively support individuals on their healing journey. I believe this approach can be challenging in a group setting with just one teacher present, additional support is needed.

By its nature, YIN YOGA SHOULD ALWAYS BE TRAUMA AWARE, offering a safe, mindful environment while avoiding potential triggers.

As teachers, we hold space for vulnerability and healing through sensitivity, care, and inclusivity.
