Various causes are there first we have to rule out the exact cause by clinical radiological pathological investigations only then treatment should be initiated. Common causes are Anemia, obstructive airway diseases, HTN and cardiovascular diseases, anxiety/ panic disorders, gastrointestinal diseases and certain neuromuscular diseases.

You know that by spirometry and certain other PFT tests we can diagnose asthma COPD and other obstructive airway diseases at very early stage. And by this way we can start precautions and preventive/ therapeutic treatment so early which not only gives you better control of these diseases but also results better prognosis and least chances of complications. So PFT with reversibility testing should be part of your routine annual health checkups ..

Now a days Viral URTI and viral pneumonia both are very commonly presenting in our day to day Clinics. Symptoms are same cough fever sore throat and breathlessness accompanied by sneezing, running nose or nasal congestion. And these are taking longer periods to resolve. People who are immunocompromised means having long term diabetes hypertension renal disease ect are experiencing more severe form of the disease. So don’t take these symptoms casually. Consult nearby physician or chest physician for proper work up like cbc chest X-rays influenza panels and other tests followed by proper treatment. Certain antivirals like oseltamivir/ ribavirin/ rimantadine/ ect do play good role in viral infections. Your doctor may prescribe certain antibiotics for secondary bacterial infections too along with pcm and antiallergics/ bronchodilators. Take proper diet including fresh vegetables and fruits along with plenty of fluids and bed rest. Gargles and steam inhalations too is important. Sometimes even without asthma or copd, if short term inhalations are prescribed by your doctor then don’t hesitate to take these as this will be for short terms only and benefits are ultimate.
