Save those eyes!

Everyoneneeds an annual retina checkup.
But if you are at a higher risk for retina problems if you have
1. High eye power or myopia
2. A history or family history of retina problems
3. Health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol
3. An injury to the eye

The retina is the thin layer at the back of the eye which helps you see. Hear Dr Aashna Sachdev, our retina specialist at Shroff Eye Centre Ghaziabad, explain the warning symptoms of a retina problem which you should not ignore.

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Rushad Shroff, an expert ophthalmologist, to talk all things eye health:

🔹 Nearsightedness vs farsightedness
🔹 Myopia in kids
🔹 Blue light & dry eyes
🔹 Contact lenses - safe or risky?
🔹 LASIK vs SILK surgery explained

If you’ve ever thought about eye surgery, worried about your child’s vision, or want simple strategies to protect your eyes, this one’s for you.

AI does Specs removal?

Myth busting time: No it doesn't..it only assists in some steps. A human is needed in all steps - including when to fire the laser.

AI is super helpful but there are too many unpredicatable and "human" variables involved for it to independantly perform an entire surgery unassisted. Especially ethical and legal issues.

Perhpas many years in the future this MAY happen- but it cannot right now. Anybody who says AI is doing laser eye surgery is simply just selling you a dream rn.

Also humans are needed not just do the surgery but for the important steps before during and after surgery such as:

1. Clarifying doubts
2. Understanding your apprehension and counseling you
3. Seeing test results and deciding IF we can or cannot do the refractive surgery safely
4. Counseling you about other options if the one you wanted is not safe for you
5. Calming you during surgery
6. Doing the surgery
7. Following up after surgery (One of the least spoken about but most important steps)

Technology alone has not reached this level (yet) where it can understand human emotions and the variability in human biology.

Your surgeon is STILL more important than the tech!

And no this was not written by AI😂

Never as eye specialists

Things we'll never do
1. Share eye makeup- this is the easiest way to transfer or get eye infections.

2. Put any rosewater, herbal things or food items in our eyes- unless you can show me proper trials please don't substitute your personal experience for my professional experience and advice. The horrid cases of severe allergies, chemical burns and eye infections that we have seen after people have used things like onion juice or other so called herbal eye washes in their eyes- please, do not do these things.

3. Use lash serums and lash extensions- these not only cause allergies and worsen dry eye but serums can also cause extra hair growth on the face and under-eye hollows to become more pronounced due to periorbital fat loss from the prostaglandins.

Please see an eye specialist and seek a professional opinion instead of seeking advise from Instagram health influencers with zero qualifications!

Delhi Retina Meet- DRM 2025

Was an amazing experience for me- right from planning, moderating and presenting surgical techniques.

Wonderful to work with an amazing Core group. Teamwork is indeed the key to success.

We are also lucky to have amazing international faculty including:

Dr Tamer Mahmoud from USA, Dr Taku Wakabayashi from Japan, Dr Hassan Mortada from Egypt, Dr Enrico Borrelli and Dr Danilo Ianetta from Italy, Dr Eleonara Lavaque from Argentina, Dr Colin Tan from Singapore and Dr Susana Teixera from Portugal.

plus with wonderful virtual talks by Dr Rajiv Muni from Canada, Dr John Kitchens, Dr Nancy Holekamp & Dr Dilraj Grewal from USA , Dr Govetto from Italy and Prof Honda from Japan.

along with of the best minds nationally joining us.

The workshop on Amniotic membrane surgery was something close to my heart and I spoke on preparation, sizing and technique of placement of the graft- something critical for everyone keen to adopt this technique!

My top 5 reasons not to miss DRM:

1.No hurried talks like regular meetings -even if you have a five minute talk, you are given 10 minutes to discuss it!

2. Immediate take home points and pearls – that you can adopt from Day 1.

3.Diversity of topics & workshops- ranging from Retina practice management , surgical workshops and intense medical workshops like OCTA.

4. International & National faculty who are masters of specific sub specialities within retina.

5. Amazing Networking opportunities - great camaraderie making new friends from across India and the globe and reconnecting with old friends!
