Japan Embraces Human-Animal Hybrid Research: A Step Towards Medical Breakthroughs

Japan is making headlines by allowing scientists to create human-animal hybrids, a move aimed at advancing regenerative medicine. These hybrids, formed by inserting human cells into animal embryos, have the potential to grow human organs within animals. This cutting-edge research could one day address organ shortages, offering hope to countless patients in need of transplants.

While this innovation sparks ethical debates worldwide, it also highlights humanity’s quest to push boundaries for the greater good. What are your thoughts on this bold step? Let’s discuss how science and ethics can coexist for a positive future!

Emerging science suggests that the effects of trauma could be genetically passed down from one generation to another.

β€œIf you feel you have been affected by a very traumatic, difficult, life-altering experience that your mother or father has had, there’s something to that,” says Rachel Yehuda, professor of psychiatry and neuroscience of trauma at Mount Sinai in New York. Her research points to a small epigenetic β€œsignal” that a life-altering experience β€œdoesn’t just die with you,” she says. β€œIt has a life of its own afterwards in some form.”

Biohacking: Enhancing Human Potential

Biohacking is a DIY approach to human enhancement, where individuals modify aspects of their biology to boost health, performance, or well-being. This concept isn't new; practices like intermittent fasting have long been part of the biohacking realm.

Modern technology has expanded the scope of biohacking. Devices like smartwatches and Fitbits offer comprehensive data about our bodies, enabling personalized health optimization and improved athletic performance.

People engage in biohacking for various reasons:
- To gain control over their health
- To explore innovative and unconventional ideas
- To address perceived flaws
- To potentially extend their lifespan

Current Examples:
Biohacking is increasingly becoming part of everyday life, with some practices being widely accepted and others appearing more avant-garde and futuristic.

How many cells are there in the human body?

Cells are the building blocks that form all the tissues and organs of the body - and now, scientists have an estimate of just how many individual cells the human body contains.

According to a new analysis of more than 1,500 papers, the average adult male human has around 36 trillion cells - while adult females have 28 trillion and 10-year-old children have about 17 trillion.

There is inverse relation between the size and count of cells across the whole human body," lan Hatton from the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig.
