Pressures and stress can impact anyone and even the best / most talented people succumb to pressure and freeze!! It’s in these times when we feel totally at loss and tend to fight this internal battle all alone.

But, does fighting it out all alone help ?

In the battle of Mahabharta, Arjun was the greatest archer, yet he blanked in the battlefield. That’s when he needed Lord Krishna to remind him of his Dharma: Duty & Purpose.

We all need our Krishna, a Mentor to guide us when our vision gets blurred be it in our career / business / relationship. A mentor helps to clears the fog which helps you know your ‘ WHY’ and the ‘HOW’ then becomes easy.

Do you have your ‘Krishna’?

“ Why did she have to do that? No wonder she’s in a mess…. she’s a failure.”

More often than not, it’s easy to look at someone’s life and form an opinion about the choices they’ve made. However, the truth is, we often judge the "choice" without knowing the options the person had!!

Sometimes, people don’t get to choose their lives—life just happens to them. We see the result, but we don't see:
- The invisible burdens they carry.
- The circumstances that forced their hand.

There is always more to a person than what appears on the surface. Before you judge, remember that you’re only seeing a single chapter of a much longer, more complex story.

“Why should I think / visualise the potential problems/ worst case scenarios in my life? Isn’t that a very pessimistic and negative approach?”

This was the question I was confronted with in my recent coaching session. This did set me thinking. On the surface, visualising "worst-case scenarios" feels pessimistic. Why would anyone want to imagine obstacles? However, falling back on my Army training where we were taught to wargame every possible worst case scenarios, its my considered view that the opposite is true.

When you visualise potential problems, you stop fearing them. Instead of being mentally fragile, you build mental preparedness. By preparing for the hurdles, you ensure that you can stay the course when things get difficult. This discipline doesn't stay in one corner of your life—it follows you into your career, your relationships, and your long-term goals.

What’s your take on this ‘ Negative Visualisation’? Looking forward to your views in the comments section.

It's easy to get caught up in planning for 'someday.' We start judging today only by its future payoff, and when we do, the present begins to thin out.

Life isn't happening in the tomorrow you're preparing for. It’s unfolding right here, right now, in the very moments you're in.

There’s a difference between considering the future (which we should do!) and living for it. Plan - Dream - Set goals. But, remember to stay in the present. This is where the magic, the connections, and the simple joys reside.

The most powerful way to honour your future self is by taking mindful action in the now and trusting the journey.

How are you making the most of your 'now' today?

“When another person makes you suffer, it is because he suffers deeply within himself, and his suffering is spilling over.” — Thich Nhat Hanh

When someone is harsh or unkind, they are often simply overflowing with their own internal struggles. So when others snap or shout at you, step back and remember that they’re probably just having a bad day…..try not to take it personally.

In the mad race of meeting targets at workplace / business, leaders unknowingly develop habits which over the long run prove to be counter productive. One of the common traits is ‘ Micromanagement’ which is a perfect recipe for disaster.

Over-managing people stifles creativity and shows a lack of trust. The fix is to set clear goals and empower your team with autonomy. Leaders should set clear goals and then step back, allowing team members the freedom to reach those goals in their own way.

What’s your take on this ?

It just takes 5 Minutes !!

A conversation last evening with a client I coach dwelled on a very common rant : “ I don’t have time.

No one has more time; everyone has 24 hours. The difference is in how you use them. But most people spend more time talking about how little time they have than actually using it.

Progress doesn’t come from waiting; it comes from taking action. Spending just 5 minutes to PLAN or ACT breaks the cycle of procrastination and puts momentum on your side.

“Action creates Motivation, and not the other way around.”

This post is inspired by the speech by Matthew McConaughey (Oscar acceptance for Best Actor) where he says that there are three things which are important to him every day:-

1. Someone to look up to
2.Someone to look forward to
3. Someone to chase, someone who is my Hero.

WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO EVERYDAY?
Look around and observe the people you respect and learn from.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FORWARD TO?
Do you look forward to the way you are handling your relationships / career / health goals?

WHO IS THE HERO YOU ARE TRYING TO BE?
It’s important to see the ‘Best Version of yourself’ as your Hero and keep chasing that Hero daily coz there can be no one but you who can be better.

The other day while sipping my evening cuppa,I got a call from my ex colleague ( he’s moved on to a new role/ organisation)

“ Hey Shard, something is not right … am not productive at my workplace though I possess the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed?”

Does this sound familiar??

My understanding has always been that people operate in two distinct spectrums. At one end, are the tangibles viz education / knowledge, skills and competencies. At the other end is something which is very abstract / intangible, very intrinsic to us viz our core value system, beliefs…something akin to our inner DNA so to say.

More often than not if there is a conflict between the tangible and the intangible you i.e the core of who you are, it’s bound to create a discord resulting in unhappiness and consequent failure. It’s only when there is congruence between your TANGIBLE self and the INTANGIBLE you, will you be happy and happiness is a pre-requisite for success!!

Doe this resonate with you? Will be happy to know your thoughts.

Transitioning from the Army into senior leadership position in the corporate was challenging. What added to the challenge was leading a team where some members had years of experience in their respective domains. I’ll admit, it was intimidating. My first instinct was to "prove" I was the boss.

I quickly realised, and am glad I did, that it was the wrong approach.

So during one morning team huddle I sat down with the most experienced team members who had worked their way up the ladder and asked: “With your experience, how would you lead the project the team is entrusted with?”

I stole a quick glance around and noticed a instant subtle shift of the energy in the room….the body language had become very relaxed and there was greater focused relaxed participation.

By valuing their relevant experience, I gained their trust.

So, if you are leading a team with older and more experienced team members, be mindful that it isn't about being the smartest person in the room. It’s about being the best listener valuing their wisdom.

When you respect the roots, the fruits are sweet.

“ My business is stagnating; I need a consultant to fix my revenue growth and NOT a Life Coach to talk about my feelings”

As a life coach I get to hear this quite often, and fully understand the underlying financial goal every entrepreneur has. But, here’s my question : “Is business growth stagnating only because of existing / lack of business process or is the root cause somewhere else?”

Having spent a decade and half plus in the corporate leading teams across Asia Pacific and now as a Life Coach, I do understand that given the competitive market dynamics, entrepreneurs are often hard-wired for tangible ROI which does create a significant friction point when discussing life coaching. They tend to view their business and their personal life as two separate P&L statements, when in reality, the entrepreneur is the prime mover both of the business and personal life.

They often mistake life coaching for "venting sessions." In a business context, life coaching focuses on high-performance by helping clear the mental clutter (decision fatigue, imposter syndrome, or burnout) that leads to poor strategic choices which were stalling business growth. It’s always about fixing the ‘man’ behind the ‘machine’ which axiomatically fixes the ‘machine’: business

Does this resonate with you? Looking forward to your comments.
