Drink water in a relaxed sitting position only is suggested by Ayurveda in Charak Samhita, Maharishi Vagbhatt, Maharishi Sushuruta, Rigveda, Modern Science, Prophet Muhammad & so on..
As per my opinion, drinking water while in standing position moves down fast & body's functions can't recognize it's actions, in result, indigestion, kidney overload, gas/acidity, conversion of ama (toxins) elevation, excess acidity in blood may cause plaque in arteries, pressure on esophagus, imbalance of the three doshas; Vata, Pitta & Kapha. It disturbs distribution & absorption of nutrients & vitamins. Also body is unable to adjust the water temperature as per individual's composition. But no immediate harm!
Take few seconds, break the standing trend & drink water calmly, sip by sip in a sitting position only when you feel thirsty.
