On the occasion of World Optometry Day, a vibrant cultural event was held at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, celebrating the spirit of unity, creativity, and dedication within the optometry community.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee (President), Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee (Director), Mr. Deepankar Dutta (Founder President, CEC), along with faculty members and administrative staff of the institution.

The cultural programme featured a diverse range of performances by students, showcasing exceptional talent, enthusiasm, and cultural vibrancy. The event fostered a strong sense of unity and camaraderie, making the celebration truly memorable.

The programme served as a meaningful tribute to the optometry profession, highlighting the importance of collaboration, dedication, and holistic development in healthcare.

On the occasion of World Optometry Day, a special ceremony was held to honour the dedicated clinical optometrists and faculty members for their invaluable contributions to eye care and education. Our Honourable President, Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee, felicitated them with a token of appreciation.

The event also celebrated student excellence through various competitions including Poster Making, Debate, Case Presentation, and Scientific Model Making. Students showcased remarkable creativity, knowledge, and innovation across all categories.

The winners of the various competitions are:

Poster Competition Winners :
1st Prize - Anika Farjana, Jonmoni Das, Taniya Sharma ("Bioengineered Cornea")

The optometry students of Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya enthusiastically participated in a Poster Making Competition to commemorate World Optometry Day on 28th March 2026. Through their creative posters, students beautifully conveyed important messages related to eye health, vision care, and the role of optometrists in healthcare.

Case Presentation Competition: Showcasing Clinical Excellence

The optometry students of Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya enthusiastically participated in a Case Presentation Competition to commemorate World Optometry Day on 28th March 2026. They presented real patient cases while strictly maintaining patient confidentiality. Each participant engaged in insightful and constructive medical discussions, analyzing the cases through an optometric perspective.

The participants impressed the judges with their clarity of thought, strong logical reasoning, and sound foundational knowledge. The competition was adjudicated by Dr. Damaris Magdalene, Dr. Priyank Bhola, and Dr. Souvik Barua.

Bright Minds, Bold Ideas: Students Debate the Future of Optometry

A Debate Competition was organised on 28th March 2026 at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, Guwahati to commemorate Optometry Day. The optometry students actively participated in the debate, presenting their perspectives on the topic “AI will replace optometrists in primary eye care”, with arguments both for and against the motion.

The session was judged by Dr. Gayatri Bharali, Ms. Sabita Neog, and Mr. Anupam Goswami.

The competition witnessed an intense and closely fought exchange between the two teams, with participants demonstrating remarkable clarity of thought and depth of understanding. Their quick thinking and ability to respond spontaneously were especially evident during the Judges’ Question Round, where they showcased strong analytical skills and presence of mind.

Eventually, three participants were adjudged 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rank based on the total marks accumulated across the three highly competitive rounds.

It was truly inspiring to witness the confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills of our future eye care professionals.

On the occasion of Optometry Day, a Scientific Model Making Competition was held at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya. 🔬 The optometry students showcased their innovative ideas through various scientific models, which were displayed and discussed during the session.

The exhibited models were judged by Dr. Dipankar Das, Dr. Krishna Gogoi, and Mr. Jico Gogoi.

The programme was also graced by the presence of Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee (President, SSDN), along with other respected faculty members.

We were deeply honoured to host Brigadier Ajit Kumar Borah, VSM (Retd.), Director, Army Institute of Nursing, Guwahati, as our Motivational Speaker of the Month at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya.

Drawing from his remarkable journey in the Indian Army, Brigadier Ajit Kumar Borah shared inspiring experiences from his years of service and leadership. He also spoke about his early days at the National Defence Academy (NDA), recounting stories that highlighted the values of discipline, resilience, teamwork, and dedication that shape the foundation of military life.

Through his engaging anecdotes and personal reflections, Brigadier Ajit Kumar Borah emphasised the importance of perseverance, strong character, and commitment in achieving one’s goals. His stories offered a glimpse into the rigorous training and life lessons that define the journey of an officer.

His words deeply resonated with our faculty, staff, and students, making the session both inspiring and memorable.
