The whole idea of meditation for a beginner is to make him mindful about his present moment - about himself and his surroundings.
Meditation helps the practitioner to become aware about our thoughts and our being. One cannot change his life simply by meditating but he will definitely be well equipped to face all the challenges that life throws at him.
Meditation shouldn't be regarded as a one time experience that will transform your life magically. Meditation asks for discipline and perseverance. No matter if for 10 mins, but only by practicing meditation on a daily basis will you be able to reap it's benefits.
For centuries, only anecdotal reports about the benefits of meditation were available as proof. Now, scientific evidence from well-designed studies, including images of the brain, are emerging. Some of these studies suggest that meditating for as little as 20 minutes daily can affect the function and structure of the brain in a positive way. Researchers have found that meditation increases attention span, sharpens focus, improves memory, and even dulls the perception of pain!
And if you find meditation boring then may be you haven't tried various types of meditation. Because if you do, then I am sure you'll be able to find the one for you, the one that you can stick to, the one that will make you a better person effortlessly.
