World Cancer Day Awareness Walkathon - 2026
The World Cancer Day Awareness Walkathon 2026, organized by Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (MGCHRI), Visakhapatnam, in association with Shreya Cancer Foundation, brought together over 5,000 participants in a powerful show of unity against cancer.
Held under the global UICC–WHO World Cancer Day theme “United by Unique | Every Step Counts Against Cancer”, the Walkathon aimed to spread awareness on cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. Students, healthcare professionals, cancer survivors, volunteers, NGOs, and citizens from all walks of life participated, raising cancer awareness slogans and walking together with hope and determination.
The event highlighted a crucial message: many cancers are preventable and highly treatable when detected early through regular screening and timely medical consultation. By walking together, participants reinforced the belief that community participation and awareness initiatives play a vital role in reducing the cancer burden in society.
Every step taken during this Walkathon symbolized hope, prevention, and collective responsibility toward building a cancer-aware and healthier future.
