Ayurvedic College, Hyderabad is the premier Institution in the State of Andhra Pradesh catering to the Education of Ayruveda. The College is named after Sri Burgula Ramakrishna Rao, the first Chief Minister of Hyderabad. The Institution was started in 1935 as a private college in Hyderabad State, by pioneering Vaidyas like Shri Shankar Prashad Hargovind, Sri M. Ramana Raju, Sri Janardhan, Sri Ramanujam Swamy, Sri Radha Kishanji, Sri Narsing Prasad Markandeya and Sri Ramdas. PRINCE OF BEARER inaugurated the College in the year 1935 in Sultan Bazar. In 1941 His Excellency, Highness and Nizam of Hyderabad issued “FIRMAN” making it a Government Ayurvedic College and Pandit Radhakrishnaji was appointed as the first Principal of the College. Firstly (4) years course was offered in Hindi Medium. In the year 1951 few modern Medicine subjects were also introduced. In 1960 (1) year House Surgency was introduced. In 1970 the institution was affiliated with Osmania University, Hyderabad. In the year 1973, the college adopted C.C.I.M.’s (Central Council of Indian Medicines, New Delhi) syllabus. In the year 1986, the institution was affiliated to N.T.R. University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada with a duration of (3) semesters consisting one and half year each with One year House Surgency of B.A.M.S. courses as per the C.C.I.M. stipulations. The intake of the College is (50), totaling the strength of the College to (300) Under Graduates. The admission in to College is through EAMCET conducted by Government of Andhra Pradesh. There are (7) Departments having One Head of Department each alongwith required staff. CCIM also accorded permission for (14) Departments and the same will function very soon after the confirmation from the Government. The Post-Graduate course was started in the year 1973, with Kayachikitsa speciality having a strength of (10) scholars. In the year 1981 Shalya, Shalakya & Prasuti Tantra was stated with a strength of (10) scholars and during 1992-93 Dravyaguna P.G. Course was started under the Central Sponsored Scheme with a strength of (6) Scholars every year. In the year 1984 the College has been shifted to its own building at Erragadda Opp. Hospital Lane, Hyderabad constructed in 4.6. Acres. of land including Girls Hostel and Hospital buildings. Further, in the year 1994 the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has allotted 57.98 Acres. of land at Himayathsagar, Rajendernagar Mandal, R.R.District for the purpose of growing Medicinal plants required for the use in the Govt. Pharmacy of the Department. An Auditorium was constructed an inaugurated in November, 2000 in the college building with all latest facilities and is being used for Seminars and other College functions.
