DHSJ Holds review meeting with Health Officials at District Samba
Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, Director Health Services Jammu (DHSJ), today visited District Samba and chaired a comprehensive review meeting with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Block Medical Officers (BMOs), and other health officials to assess the functioning of health institutions and ongoing health programmes in the district.

During the meeting, Dr. Zargar reviewed the performance indicators under various national health programmes, including NTEP, NHM, NCD, and immunization drives. He emphasized the need for improving healthcare delivery at the grassroots level and directed the officers to ensure punctuality, availability of essential medicines, and proper patient care across all health facilities.

The Director also stressed on maintaining hygiene and sanitation within hospital premises and strengthening referral linkages between peripheral health centres and the District Hospital.

He appreciated the efforts of the district health team in implementing government health initiatives and urged them to further enhance community outreach activities and awareness campaigns.

The meeting was attended by CMO Samba, DHO Samba, Deputy CMO, BMOs, and other senior officers of the health department.

GCW Parade Hosts Two-Day Programme on World Heart Day

Poster Competition and Awareness Talk Highlight Importance of Heart Health


Jammu, September 27
The Centre for Women’s Studies, Government College for Women (GCW) Parade, organised a two-day programme to mark World Heart Day under the supervision of Principal Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about heart health through creative participation and expert guidance.

On the first day, a poster-making competition on the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat” was held, with 28 students showcasing their creativity. Based on various parameters, Huma Mukhtar secured the first prize, Harika Raj Nagrotra came second, and Janhvi Raina bagged the third position. The competition was judged by Dr. Rajesh Kant (HoD Chemistry), Dr. Sanjeet Kour (HoD Zoology), and Dr. Vinus Sharma (HoD Computer Science).

Day two featured an awareness talk by Dr. Veenu Kaul, Associate Director and Cardiologist at Medanta Heart Institute, Gurugram. He emphasized the need to identify unique symptoms of heart disease and adopt preventive measures tailored to individual health conditions such as high cholesterol and blood pressure. He also highlighted the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, stress management, and quitting smoking as key lifestyle changes for a healthy heart. The interactive session saw active participation from students who raised several queries.

Certificates were awarded to all participants. Principal Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo lauded Convener Dr. Seema Malpotra and committee members Dr. Shally Chadha, Dr. Ramesh Chander, Dr. Komal Bangotra, and Dr. Arti Devi for organising an informative and engaging programme. The event was also attended by Dr. Sushma Chib, Dr. Nitu Sharma, Dr. Tazim, and Dr. Amar.

The programme concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of awareness and lifestyle choices in preventing heart disease and promoting healthier living among youth.

Revolutionary Dermatological Advancements Unveiled at CUTICON JK 2023

The 15th of December 2023 marked the grand inauguration of CUTICON JK 2023, the 4th Annual Conference of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists, and Leprologists (IADVL) Jammu & Kashmir Branch, held at The Grand Dreams Resort, Near Heritage School, Sainik Colony, Jammu. Under the theme "Evolution of Dermatology - Fundamental to Innovation," the conference promised groundbreaking insights into the world of dermatology.

Eminent dermatologists from across the country gathered at the inaugural ceremony, graced by distinguished figures such as Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Zawar, President IADVL; Dr. D Dinesh Kumar, Honorary Secretary IADVL; and Dr. Manjunath Shenoy, President Elect IADVL, among others. Renowned dermatologists from Jammu and Kashmir, including Dr. Jitendra Arora, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and Dr. Vipin Gupta, were prominently present.

Organized by IADVL JK Branch and led by Dr. Cheena Langer, Organising Chairperson, and Dr. Arti Sakral, Organising Secretary, the two-day immersive experience served as a unique platform for knowledge exchange and learning. It brought together budding dermatologists not only from Jammu and Kashmir but also from neighbouring states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana to interact and learn from esteemed dermatologists across the country.

The conference featured scientific research presentations by young dermatologists, providing insights into the innovative research landscape. Throughout the day, various scientific sessions were conducted by expert dermatologists, covering diverse skin diseases, their symptoms, signs, treatment guidelines, and emerging treatment plans.

In a heartfelt moment, Prof. (Dr.) Jitendra Arora, retired Professor and Head from GMC Jammu, was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the chief guest, Dr. Vijay Zawar, President IADVL. The award celebrated Dr. Jitendra Arora's untiring efforts and significant contributions to the field of dermatology, particularly in Jammu & Kashmir.

The inaugural function concluded with a cultural extravaganza, capturing the essence of Jammu & Kashmir. Attendees were treated to a mesmerizing display of local traditions, adding a touch of local flavor to the conference.
