This year the Shankar’s On the Spot Painting Competition 2024 is scheduled to be held on Sunday November 24, 2024

More details are coming soon.

An offshoot of the Shankar’s International Children’s Competition was the Shankar’s On-the-Spot Painting Competition held annually in New Delhi. It was started in 1952 when doubts were expressed about the originality of the paintings received in the Shankar’s International Children’s Competition. The On-the-Spot Painting Competition was a regular event attended by the 10,000 children from the capital and its suburbs till the year 2005. Thereafter it was suspended owing to space constraints and traffic restrictions. However, the Competition has been revived again in 2022, coinciding with Children’s Day.

Free and open to everyone from 3 to 25 years old

Created in 1993, our contest continues to expand worldwide. This « open window » on our planet collects the artistic expressions of young people under 25 years old each year, under varying themes.

The International Visual Arts Competition was created in 1993 by Michel GIROST, Founding President of the Louis François Center for UNESCO (1995) and the IMAJ World Institute of Youth Art (2019).
The celebration of its 30th anniversary in 2023, installed six artists in the role of promoters of the six age categories: 3-5 years old Philippe Tykoczinski, 6-9 years old Guy Péqueux, 10-13 years old Béatrice Tabah, 14-17 years old Alain Richard, 18-25 years old Monique Turin and Medico-social Pascale Rouillot. These artists have contributed to the history and development of our association, we wish to pay tribute to them.

On the other hand, three friends, very involved volunteers, have left us over the last two years: Bernadette Bautz, Mireille Lemée and Bruno Fageot, we award them the title of Ambassadors of our international Competition.

Our contest promotes artistic practice among children and young people around the world, aiming to bring them together around a common international action.

Global Canvas Children’s Art Competition 2025

Submission Deadline: 14 February 2025

Global Canvas children’s art competition is an annual international art contest run by DSWF, to encourage creativity from young people, to display thought and concern for our planet’s environment and the incredible wildlife that inhabits it.

Set up in 2004 by DSWF’s founder, wildlife artist and conservationist David Shepherd, each year, the competition receives thoughtful and creative entries from all over the world, with an amazing array of interpretations of the year’s theme.

2025 Theme
“Coexistence – how can humans and wildlife live in harmony?”
There is only one planet – but it is a shared one.

When an elephant eats a farmer’s crops, a lion eats their cattle, or a snow leopard eats their sheep – it creates conflict between these animals and local communities. No one would want to see a family go hungry or lose their livelihoods, but it’s just as important animals aren’t pushed out of their home ranges or are unable to find food.

That’s why finding ways to support local people to live alongside the wildlife around them is essential to conservation and the most worthwhile conservation work balances the needs of both wildlife and people.

This is the very meaning of coexistence.

Who can enter Global Canvas?
- Children and young people aged 16 and under.
- Groups and Individuals – the competition is split into 2 categories which are judged separately.
- Groups require a minimum of 2 people.

The categories will then be judged in the following age groups:

Competition winners will receive a cash prize or vouchers for art supplies, digital animal adoptions, and certificates.

Top 3 Finalists Announced for The 2023 International Children’s Peace Prize

The international children’s rights organisation, KidsRights, has announced the finalists for the 19th edition of its annual International Children’s Peace Prize, highlighting the remarkable achievements of young changemakers fighting courageously for children’s rights across the world.

Each year the prize has been awarded by a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and in 2023, Ouided Bouchamaoui, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate 2015, will declare the winner of the International Children’s Peace Prize. The winner will receive the Nkosi statuette along with a study and care grant for their education. The recipient will also receive a project fund of €100.000, half of which will support the winner’s cause, and half invested by KidsRights in other projects of other young changemakers fighting for children’s rights.

For the first time in the event’s history, the ceremony will take place on Friday 17th November in the Palace of Whitehall, London, reflecting the global allure of the prestigious award. It will also be livestreamed so that the winner’s message can reach a global audience. Last year’s winner was able to reach an audience of 2.2bn people worldwide.

Announcing the finalists, Marc Dullaert, Founder and Chair at KidsRights said: “This year has been extremely difficult for young people across the world. Yet the nominees for this year’s International Children’s Peace Prize award are a beacon of hope and an example to us all, demonstrating moral leadership and resilience by tackling the most pressing issues of our time.”

This year’s shortlist features hugely impressive nominees from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the USA.

Sofia Tereshchenko, Anastasiia Feskova and Anastasiia Demchenko are 18 and 17-year-old girls from Ukraine who are on a mission to help children who have become refugees after the war, like themselves. Aaron Scarth is a 16-year-old boy from the UK who is fighting to destigmatise the public perception of children with parents in prison. Sri Nihal Tammana is a 14-year-old boy from the USA who is inspiring others around the world to recycle discarded batteries to protect the environment.

Sofia Tereshchenko, Anastasiia Feskova and Anastasiia Demchenko, who hail from Ukraine, were working together on a project to develop a mobile app when the country was invaded by Russia in 2022. Aged just 16 and 17 at the time, the girls were truly shocked by the stories of other children being forced to cross the border to other countries and become a refugee without any parent to rely on.

They immediately shifted the focus of their mobile app project, to build a solution that supported refugee children in need. Shortly after this, however, two members of the group became refugees themselves, moving to the UK and Japan while the third was able to stay in Ukraine. This only spurred them on in their efforts to help other refugee children – especially those in a worse situation than their own.

Since then, the group have worked tirelessly together to raise seed money and build two apps. The first, ‘Refee’, is aimed at those 4 – 11 years of age and helps them find all the information they need to feel secure in their new host country. This includes first steps, as well as communication advice so they can access basic needs such as safety, food and shelter. The second, ‘SVITY’, is targeted at those 16 years of age and above who are struggling to integrate in their new country by facilitating conversation between refugee children and those from host communities. Both apps are live and available to download from the App Store, and the group have plans to extend its use amongst all child refugees across the globe.
