General information

The school was founded by Mr Mohammad Ali in 1997 under the philosophy that every child has the right to food, education, shelter and stability. Located in the village of Kamshet, 100 km north of Pune in Maharashtra, KESBO gives students the opportunity to grown and learn, and become independent and socially-responsible members of the community. KESBO provides a home for around 50 boys, aged six to 18, whose parents have died or are unable to care for them. Almost all of the students have come from Kargil, an impoverished area in northern Kashmir. The boys receive all meals and healthcare, as well as daily classes up to the 10th standard. KESBO teaches a practical and dynamic curriculum that includes English, Hindi, Marathi, maths, science, computers and business. In 2004, an oil tanker overturned near KESBO, starting a devastating fire that destroyed the orphanage and killed four students and staff members. Thanks to the generous contributions of donors, KESBO was able to rebuild and reopen, however the tragedy has resulted in ongoing financial pressure and cut backs. Our appeal is for a kind donation in order to help fund KESBO as it continues reconstruction and expansion to further help Kashmiri children caught in the crossfire of war and give them a childhood free from fear and destitution.
