High levels of stress cause and worsen risk factors such as diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. A number of factors appear to be at work. For example, if we are under stress, our blood pressure goes up, we tend to overeat, exercise less, and are more likely to smoke and drink alcohol. Though not yet medically classified as a risk factor for Ischemic heart disease, stress itself might be a risk factor as chronic stress exposes our body to unhealthy, persistently elevated levels of stress hormones. These stress hormones, adrenaline and cortisol, among other changes in our body, also make our heartbeat and breathing speed up. They also send glucose stores into the blood to make energy immediately available to our muscles. The result - higher blood sugar and high blood pressure. Stress also changes the way the blood clots, which increases the risk of heart attack. Another major reason to keep chronic stress in check is that cortisol is known to increase appetite. Moreover it also encourages cells in our abdomen to conserve fat thereby increasing abdominal obesity which seriously raises our risk of a heart attack.

Sports is defined as ‘an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment’. The English word 'sport' comes from Latin word 'disport’, which means frolic or something which carries you away from a less interesting business! Allow 'fun' to come into our lives. Don’t exercise. Don’t go to gym. Play! Let the physical activity be something we do for pure fun. Let it be the initial reason why sports were played. For fun!

All work and no play not only make Jack a dull boy, it makes him a timid boy too! Let's remember to shore up our fortitude! By playing regularly!
