Colostrum is a nutrient-rich fluid produced by female immediately after giving birth.

It is loaded with immune, growth and tissue repair factors.

It is a complex biological fluid, which helps in the development of immunity in the newborn.

For some women, colostrum is thick and yellowish. For others, it is thin and watery.

The flow of colostrum is slow so that a baby can learn to nurse — a skill that requires a baby to suck, breathe, and swallow.

After 3 to 4 days of making colostrum, the breasts will start to feel firmer, which is a sign of increase of milk supply and changing from colostrum to mature milk. The milk may become whiter and creamier, but this varies between women.
