“মুক্তির অর্থ অবাধ স্বাধীনতা - শুভ অশুভ, পাপ পুণ্য এবং সমস্ত কিছু বন্ধন থেকে চিরমুক্তি। লৌহ শৃঙ্খলের মতো স্বর্ণ শৃঙ্খলও এক শৃঙ্খল। শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ বলতেন, পায়ে কাঁটা বিঁধলে আরেকটি কাঁটা দিয়ে তাকে তুলে ফেলতে হয়,এবং কাঁটাটি তোলা হয়ে গেলে দুটি কাঁটাই ফেলে দিতে হয়। তেমনই মন্দ প্রবৃত্তিকে দমিত করতে হলে তা করতে হয় সৎ প্রবৃত্তির দ্বারাই; কিন্তু কার্যসিদ্ধি হয়ে গেলে সেই সৎ প্রবৃত্তিকেও আবার দমন করতে হবে। ইহাই স্বাধীনতা - সমস্ত বন্ধন থেকে চিরমুক্তি।”
