The first time I experienced a Yoga Nidra practise, I didn't know what to expect and still dont know exactly what happened that day back in 2003! I do remember getting comfortable and being guided softly into a relaxation like no other. But the most important thing was how I felt afterwards- totally restored and refreshed as if I'd had the best 8 hours nights sleep ever! And the effect lasted for some while after. Fast forward to 2025 after much personal practise and hours of specialist learning/training and teaching, here I am offering this wonderful practise regularly as I believe wholeheartedly in its benefits to our overall health and well being

As Yoga teachers we do learn about Savasana - final relaxation and how to 'teach' it, Yoga Nidra however, is different. Whilst participants are relaxing in a similar position to a really good supported Savasana; as opposed to lying flat on the floor like in a lot of classes, in Yoga Nidra students are really encouraged to use props and support the body to be comfortable. In fact comfort is one of the guiding principles of Yoga Nidra. Along with warmth, quiet and dim light/darkness.

Yoga Nidra is a systematic way of guiding participants into complete relaxation on every level from physical, emotional, mental to spiritual. Its a way of feeling back into the stillness, the awareness behind all the layers we operate through and are in our daily existence. To view all the changing thoughts, sensations and feelings just as they are until they no longer disturb and participants can completely rest back into inner peace

Interested? Sounds inviting? How about coming along and joining us online 18.45 for 75 minutes (we have a good stretch and breathe away the stress of the day first) on TUESDAY 19th AUGUST

The word "Hatha"
Hatha a Sanskrit word- pronounced "Haa- taa", Yoga literally translated means sun, moon, unite. Ha meaning sun, Tha meaning moon and Yoga coming from the word yoke, to bring together, to unite. So when we practise any form / style of Hatha Yoga- the Yoga of activity, of posturing, we are aiming to bring both our sun energy, referred to as our masculine side, and our moon energy, our feminine side, into perfect harmony. When we practise Hatha Yoga we combine activity [sun] with relaxation [moon] bringing us into a sense of beautiful equilibrium. How can we best describe that feeling after a really good Yoga class? It's hard to describe other than in terms of how we feel. Blissful would be my suggestion!

The above is a very brief description of a truly amazing system of optimum health. The study of Hatha Yoga is a fascinating journey of self discovery and understanding of what it means to be human.

We all have both feminine and masculine attributes stemming from our sun and moon energies. Today and everyday I will be thankful for my sun energies of physical strength, enthusiasm, drive and motivation and my moon energy of compassion and kindness

On Saturday June 21st between 07.30 and 9.00 I encourage you to bring along your motivation and enthusiasm and join me online live. I will be guiding you through a series of fluid movements, making shapes to follow the traditional and not so traditional ways of saluting the sun. It is a traditional way of honouring the sun and our sun energy on the summer solstice. Its also the 10th anniversary of International Day of Yoga a time yo celebrate Yoga!

PLEASE NOTE BOOKING WILL CLOSE 19.00 (7pm ) UK time on Friday 20th so please book early at www.yoga-yoga.guru

My wonderful mentor and friend. One of the most important Yoga teachers and advocate. An opportunity to join one of her incredible inspiring classes

Most Yoga teacher training courses focus on content and technique of practice. Few, however, expound on the process and technique of teaching that is, the delivery.  This course is about learning how to effectively teach and apply content (from whatever method or style) within a complex and dynamic...

Yin Yoga a special class

This coming Sunday 17th March
10.00- 11.30am £20 online live via Zoom

"A little bit more Yang in your Yin"

We will explore a series of Yin Yoga poses in a slightly more active way. Yin Yoga is a powerful way to “slow down to get strong” [me] Rooted in Chinese medicine and Taoism. This type of Yoga requires strength of mind to focus and turn inwards; physical strength to hold poses for a little longer and strength of heart to soften into the practise with grace and openness. Often we confuse a less active release with collapsing. Yin Yoga is not about collapsing - but we could say, it’s about yielding into some familiar Hatha Yoga type shapes with a different approach. In this class I’d like to draw your attention to paying attention and keeping some active awareness in your softening and releasing. A little more Yang perhaps?

For class you will need:

A Yoga mat, two Yoga bricks or prop equivalents like books, cushions or canned beans- whatever:- NB needs to be same size. A bolster or large bath towel (rolled up) and a blanket or two

So come join me online live via zoom this Sunday morning and release actively into softness!

My dear teacher Donna sharing her wisdom 🙏🏻

My dear teacher Donna sharing her wisdom 🙏🏻

Sometimes it feels as if time is accelerating. This seems to be truer for those of us in the autumn years of our lives who know that we have fewer years ahead than those already lived. At the same time, we have entered a time on the planet when change is happening at an accelerated pace. It can be difficult to absorb this change without feeling anxious or tipped off balance.

Strangely, this sped-up pace is being mirrored within the world of yoga. Classes are shorter and often instructed at such a frenzied pace that one might wonder whether it is serving the pathology of the culture and thereby becoming part of the problem. While that might seem harsh, many of the people who have been attending my monthly Mastering Simplicity sessions tell me they have stopped going to yoga classes. And they’ve stopped attending live classes because they find themselves unable to sense, feel and respond to their bodies in an intelligent way because the pace of the class is just too darned fast! I know many of you are yoga practitioners and teachers with decades of practice behind you and that your level of mobility, fitness and awareness is exceptional. What I can surmise is that it’s not that the generic public yoga class is too physically challenging, it’s just counterproductive for someone with a mature understanding of their body/soma and psyche. Because why do yoga if the net result is that you feel discombobulated and left with a case of jangling nerves! Does this ring true for some of you?

Which is why, whether you are joining these monthly sessions or not, I applaud those of you who continue to show up on your mat and to draw upon your own inner guidance to find a sense of calm amidst the storm. Moving slowly through a yoga practice allows you to regulate the nervous system, sense and feel into what is truly happening on the day, and build strength without strain and without injury. This is the kind of yoga practice that can give us ballast in a topsy-turvy world.
