Have you been told to wait till your child is 12 years old, to start with the braces treatment of your child’s teeth?? If the person who gave you the advice is NOT an orthodontist, you may have been misinformed!!

The dental braces treatment corrects deformities related to your teeth, or, the jaws. The best time to start with braces treatment, ranges from 7 years to 13 years depending on the type of the problem.

Problems which need natural jaw growth for correction cannot be best resolved once jaw growth is over, or, is on the declining curve.

Many developing orthodontic problems need attention at the age as early as 7 years. If your child is a mouth breather or having a thumb sucking habit; it needs to be addressed early as these habits start affecting the normal growth of the jaws and teeth.

Orthodontic problem diagnosed early, may be resolved using preventive measures to stop its further progression or with interceptive measure to reduce the severity of the same or reduce complexity of later treatment.

Visit an orthodontist at least once every year after the age of 7 years, to keep a close eye on the growth of the jaws and the teeth. Your orthodontist will advise you the right time to start orthodontic treament, if needed.
