14th NOVEMBER: WORLD DIABETES DAY

World Diabetes Day is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries.

It was created in 1991 by IDF and the World Health Organization and became an official United Nations Day in 2006.

The campaign is represented by a blue circle logo. It is the global symbol for diabetes awareness. It signifies the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes epidemic.

The theme for WDD 2017 is "WOMEN AND DIABETES"

The World Diabetes Day 2017 campaign will promote the importance of affordable and equitable access for all women at risk for or living with diabetes to the essential diabetes medicines and technologies, self-management education and information they require to achieve optimal diabetes outcomes and strengthen their capacity to prevent type 2 diabetes.

Let us stand for women's rights to a healthy future!

On July 6, 1885, Louis Pasteur successfully administered the first vaccine against a zoonotic disease, to Joseph Meister after he had been mauled by a rabid dog.

Hence, World Zoonoses Day is observed on 6th July every year to help raise awareness of the growing risk of zoonotic diseases, which are diseases that can be spread from animals to humans.
Zoonoses are viral diseases like rabies and influenza, bacterial diseases such as Lyme disease and brucellosis, or parasitic diseases such as tapeworms. All of these are diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans.

"Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity."

Today, we are students being taught by doctors; soon, we will be THE Doctors. Perhaps it is important to remind ourselves why we chose to become doctors in the first place.

Doctors hold a respected position within the community. And in our role, everything we do matters.
A doctor's devotion and care brings healing, comfort and hope. And in today's world, with so many incidences of deteriorating doctor-patient relationship, it is important to show empathy as well as compassion towards our patients.

We must remind ourselves that we aren't Gods on earth; we can treat, but only He can cure.

In recognition of the birth and the death anniversary of the legendary physician, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, the first day of July is observed as The National Doctor's Day in India.

So today, let us all strive to be great doctors that the world needs. :)

IMA Medical Students Network wishes you a very Happy Doctors Day!
