The crown of asanas,
balanced on a crown.

Where others move, I am still.
Where others breathe wide, I gather inward.

The body inverts.
The mind follows.

There are times when practice continues, and yet something does not deepen.

At such a point, it may not be about learning more, but about living differently for a while.

Tapas, Svadhyaya, Ishwara Pranidhana is a 90-day residential immersion at the TSF Ashram, Madanapalle. The focus is on disciplined living, steady practice, study, and surrender through the three pillars of Kriya Yoga.

This is not a certification course. It is not a retreat. It is a period of living Yoga in a structured environment.

Hum Sau is a simple inward practice.
With the breath, it becomes a quiet reminder — “I am That.”

Sri M explains how this practice, drawn from the Hum Sau Upanishad, begins with awareness of breath. Gently, the mind settles. Sound becomes subtle. Attention turns inward.

Over time, what remains is the seer — not what is seen.

In Yoga Sangha this May, the focus turns to the Yoga Upanishads.
A space to listen, reflect, and stay with the practice.

Triangle has a bolder sibling.
One that bends a knee,
throws an arm to the sky,
and twists its ribs to the ceiling.

Not quite a warrior,
not quite a triangle,
something in between, at an angle.

Who am I?

In this video, Sri M explains the deeper meaning of tapas in Yoga.

He clarifies that tapas is not about extreme physical austerities or outward acts. Such practices may appear intense, but they do not necessarily lead one towards the Self.

Tapas, as understood in Yoga, comes from the root “tap,” meaning heat. This is an inner heat, created when one begins to turn inward instead of seeking outside.

Sri M points out that most of life moves in one direction — towards external experience. The yogi chooses to move in the opposite direction. This creates friction within, and from this friction arises a certain intensity.

This inner heat reflects a shift. A willingness to move against habit and return to awareness.

Tapas, then, is the discipline of this inward movement. A steady effort to stay with the practice, even when it is not easy.

In this video, Sri M explains how Yoga goes beyond physical movement.

He points out that while Yoga supports the body, its deeper role is in bringing balance to the mind and the internal system. A healthy body becomes the base for a steady mind, making practices like meditation possible.

What sets Yoga apart is its influence on the body’s internal processes. Through asana, breath, and awareness, Yoga works with the endocrine system, helping regulate how the body responds and reacts.

Sri M shares that with regular practice, even emotional patterns can begin to change. For example, certain asanas can support the body in settling excess reactions, like anger, by bringing balance to internal functions.

Yoga, in this sense, is a way of maintaining balance — not excess, not deficiency, but a steady middle path.

As March unfolds, this edition of Yogavidya turns to action, not as compulsion, but as a discipline of clarity.

In the Gita, Arjuna’s conflict is not about lack of knowledge, but the inability to act when duty becomes personal. Sri Krishna’s teaching of karma-yoga points to a simple shift: act as required, without holding on to the result. Through reflections from the Jnaneshwari, this issue looks at how action, attachment, and inner conflict are closely tied.

In this issue:

Main Article — Duty, Action, and the Conflict in Between
Sri M Explains — Cognitive Distillation through Vedantic Inquiry
Talk with M — Cartoon
Blog Post — Cultivating Evenness of Mind Amidst Success and Failure
Book Review — Tripura Rahasya
Yoga Guide — Reframing the Mundane: Every Task as a Yogic Practice
