When education can lead to empowerment. Elated to be educating young girls about menstrual & Hormonal health including PCOS as a part of Health Awareness Session organised at IMS, Ghaziabad. With rising statistics of 1 in 5 women in India getting diagnosed with PCOS, making these sessions happen can help the girls and women more aware to take action for their own health.
The vision is to “Educate to Empower” so that they can take care of themselves. This is a part of our PCOS- self help program. We have proudly educated more than 500 girls already since a year. Looking forward for spreading more.

When patient centric care requires a common language between Doctors and Nutritionist esp in case of chronic conditions, it has to be NUTRITION.
✅If before prescribing a Pill, we start with Lifestyle change as a medicine. The preventive health can finally come into action with full vigour.
And before someone talks about nutrition already being taught to doctors we need to be a lil more extensive and the same goes for Certificate course nutritionist who by-pass Physiology and bio-chemistry in a 6month course. You definitely add in to the chaos.

Wrapping up the most glorious event of Health.
Public health was never my interest, but from being into Clinical Nutrition, now opening up into Research, I have realised that if Research work has to be put to use to the masses, it is Imperative to understand the GAPS in public health and also understand the way public health sector works.
I cannot even put to words, how powerful was the exchange from across different sectors of Health, from academia, doctors, stakeholders and policy makers all together at the same platform, helping together to work towards single goal ..Health for All. Hashimoto’s which an auto immune condition or Thyroid ( both Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism) are linked to Micronutrients Deficiencies.

It becomes necessary to have a Diet rich in Iron , Zinc, Selenium and Magnesium.
Vit D and Vit B12 can require supplementation which has been shown to highly improve the way Thyroid works.
Ferritin levels also drop due to Hypothyroidism due to the less secretion of Stomach acid and therefore low absorption of Iron.

Always recommended to get the blood work done within 3months to keep a track of your micronutrients.
The optimum ranges are mentioned

Vit D 35-40 ng /ml

Vit B12 500 to 1300 Pg/ml

Ferritin 70 to 90 mg/dL

Women’s Health

The most common problem a women May face in her 40’s is knee pain, backaches and joints pain and we are directed to take Calcium supplements.

But Calcium requires VITD to be absorbed in your Gut. And once that calcium is absorbed now you would want that calcium to be deposited in your bones, this is where no one talks about Vit K which is produced by your Gut bacteria.

Thyroid can be reversed depending on the type ( difficult if it’s an Auto Immune- Hashimotos) duration and other co morbid factors.

But focusing on these 4 factors consistently will help you to manage your Thyroid very well.

Food sources for
Selenium:
Nuts , pumpkin seeds, egg yolk, Brazil nuts, Mushrooms.

Copper :
Green Leafy Veggies, mushrooms and nuts

Magnesium:
Dark chocolate, green leafy veggies , Pumpkin seeds.

Iodine:
Leafy Greens, spirulina, seaweed, Prunes

Vit D:
Sunlight, Egg yolks, Mushrooms

Tyrosine:
An Amino Acid present in food sources like Pumpkin seeds, Banana, yoghurt, Cottage Cheese, Almonds, chicken, Peanuts.
