There seems to be a lot of pressure on new mothers to "bounce back", return to exercise and fit into prenatal clothes. But it often takes the body a few months just to have postpartum changes start to reverse. And yet we try to push through. We return to "postpartum bootcamps", or feel guilty if we don't. We expect to just pick up our exercise program where we left off, before the nausea, or the back pain made us stop exercising. We are terrified that our abdominals have separated and need to get back to core exercises immediately.
Mama, you can rest. You can bond with baby. You can take short walks. You can do gentle movements. You are allowed to recover. We know that not everyone feels this way. But we encourage you to be mindful of how you recover after delivery, respect your body and know that you have time to return to more intense exercise when your body is ready.
Join us this week as we discuss returning to exercise postpartum. 💛
