Scars can have a significant impact on a patient's physical and emotional well-being, affecting their mindset and quality of life. Scars can lead to feelings of self-consciousness, anxiety, and depression. At times patient can have body image issues and get socially withdrawn.

A plastic surgeon plays a crucial role in addressing these concerns.

This can be done in different ways. With proper planning before surgery, the scar can be carefully placed in natural skin folds, in the hairline, or in areas that are normally covered.
When it is not possible to hide the scar, it's about using special surgical techniques—like making a curving (rather than straight) cut, closing the skin in layers, and choosing the best direction for the scar—so that it blends in better with the skin.

In the end, the art of plastic surgery is not just about removing what’s unwanted, but also about leaving behind as little trace as possible.

A keloid is a type of raised scar that forms after an injury, often growing larger than the original wound. Keloids can be itchy, painful, or tender, and may appear anywhere on the body. They're more common in people with darker skin tones and can be caused by acne, burns, or piercings. Treatment options include topical creams, injections, or surgical removal, but keloids can sometimes recur. Consulting a Plastic surgeon can help determine the best course of treatment for keloid scars.

Wrist drop is a condition where a person cannot lift their wrist or fingers. It usually happens because a nerve called radial nerve is either pressed too much or damaged.
The nerve might get pressed in the forearm, this is called radial tunnel syndrome. The nerve can also get hurt due to a broken bone in the arm, shoulder dislocation or too much pressure on the nerve.
Sometimes if it is just nerve compression, the nerve can release surgically and the function improves. If the nerve is damaged and doesn’t heal by itself in a specified duration, surgery is needed to repair it. The damaged nerve segment is removed and nerve is repaired with or without nerve graft.
At times when nerve repair is not possible either nerve bypass and even later the function can be reconstructed by transferring few tendon. It needs physiotherapy for some time.
The main aim of surgery is to help the patient move their wrist and fingerse.

A nail bed injury occurs when the area under your fingernail or toenail is damaged, often due to a crush or cut. Symptoms include pain, bleeding, swelling, and nail lifting or separation. If not treated properly, nail bed injuries can lead to infection, nail loss, or deformity. To treat a nail bed injury, apply ice, elevate the affected area, and clean the wound, and seek medical attention. Prompt treatment can help prevent complications like nail bed deformity and promote healing.
