Did you know today is World Senior Citizen day?

India’s elderly population is rising and standing strong. With about 11 percent of Indians belonging to the 60+ age group (Source: Statista), roughly 5% of our elders live with a disability, and as many as 46% struggle with daily tasks (Source: PAA 2019, BioMed Central).

We have laws like:
The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act (2007) which obligates families, and even in-laws, to care for seniors
&
The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (2016) which ensures inclusivity, dignity, and access for all people with disabilities
But laws alone aren’t enough. We need real awareness - about mobility, respect, social support, and access to basic services. That’s why representation matters.

So here’s what you can do today: Watch films featuring our friends, senior citizens with disabilities on our Disability Awareness Website. Https://disability.trinayani.org

See how they live, thrive, and keep it real, because that’s how we build empathy and ignite action! Let us know your favorite films in the comment section!

Today, June 11 is International Play Day - a celebration of the joy, imagination, and freedom that play brings!

While kids and adults jump into games for the thrill of fun, play also quietly introduces us to values: empathy, fairness, inclusion - values that shape who we are.

We believe play can spark powerful conversations too! Trinayani’s “Towards Inclusion” disability awareness card game kit featuring 6 engaging games make learning about disability interactive, and yes, totally fun.

Curious how it all works? Our new film captures moments from our recent “Towards Inclusion” workshops where the card games sparked laughter and reflection - watch it now:

See how simple games can open minds and bring us closer to a more inclusive world!

You’re welcome to take a peek inside our “Towards Inclusion” Workshop, where conversations get real, mindsets get flipped and card games become catalysts for...

Communication is a Right!

Our second film on takes you inside Nishant’s world. Nishant is a non-speaking
person living with autism. However, with the power of Alternative and Augmentative Communication , he is carving out his own way to express his thoughts, feelings and needs. Supported by his mother he’s not only “finding his voice” but using ways to speak, just in a different way. Watch Nishant using VOCA, AVAZ, PECS to communicate.

A survey in 2023 showed that 18 million Indians are on the Autism spectrum.

This Autism Awareness Week, every day - straight from our disability awareness website - we’ll bring you a film that speaks louder than words. Films featuring self-advocates speaking their truth, experts breaking down what really matters, and resources that go beyond the basics!

Autism is not a puzzle to be solved but a world to be understood, appreciated, and embraced. Through these films, we hope to spark conversations, challenge misconceptions, and move you - maybe even change the way you see autism forever!

So, stick around. Watch. Learn. Share. Let’s make space for real conversations.

We begin with Yesheevardanbir Singh Rathore’s film! Yashi, a student, a singer and someone who’s journey is shaped by teachers who believe in him, classmates who support him, and, of course, his deep love for Hindustani music.
His mom shares with us what inclusion really looks like. Watch, listen, and join us in celebrating voices that deserve to be heard!

What’s a Mother Language? It’s the first language you think in, dream in, and feel at home with.

So…do you think the is all about spoken words? Think again!

Some languages don’t need sound - they dance through fingers, paint pictures in the air, and speak through facial expressions! they are visual. Yes, we’re talking about Sign Language!

Deaf mothers pass on their language the same way everyone does - through bedtime stories, lullabies (yes, signed ones exist!), and endless “Why?” questions from their kids.

For the Deaf community, is not just a language. It’s their identity, part of their culture, and the connection to the world.

So today, with all the other languages, let’s give a shout out to the languages we see, rather than hear - as communication isn’t about hearing, it’s about understanding!

On Anti-Leprosy Day, today 30th January, let’s confront the stigma surrounding leprosy. Despite being curable, this disease is still misunderstood, leaving many to face unnecessary isolation.

I had the opportunity of interviewing Subhojit Goswami, Senior Program Manager at
The Leprosy Mission Trust India for our Disability Awareness website. Watch him bust misconceptions, sharing a light on the real challenges and calling for early intervention and awareness!

It's time to rewrite the story of leprosy - one where compassion and knowledge replace fear and ignorance. Join us in this vital conversation.

We know it's a bit late into January, which is observed as , but it's never too late to hear Amba Salelkar story.

In her film, on our Disability Awareness website, LINK IN BIO Amba Salelkar shares her personal journey of living with a psychosocial disability and her message is simple: creating an inclusive world means understanding and respecting the needs of people with psychosocial disabilities. Through accommodations and peer people, we can make real change.

Republic Day is a celebration of our Constitution, which guarantees fundamental rights to all citizens, like Article 14 (Right to Equality) or Article 41 (Right to work, education, and public assistance).

But for millions of people with disabilities, accessing education or finding a job still remains a struggle. To address this, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 was introduced, ensuring equality and inclusion.

This Republic Day, we invite you to watch the film on our Disability Awareness Website featuring Mr. T. D. Dhariyal, former Deputy Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in the Government of India. In the film, he takes us through the RPwD Act 2016, discussing key provisions!

https://disability.trinayani.org/faq/rpwd-act-2016/

As we celebrate Republic Day, let’s reflect on the progress we’ve made and the work still ahead to ensure equality for all.

Wishing you all a from and Team Trinayani.
