Some assumptions are so common, we don’t even stop to question them. They quietly shape how we think, what we expect, and how we treat people. But myths are not facts, they are what we’ve heard, believed, and passed on for far too long.
The thing about myths is they don’t just stay as ideas but turn into barriers. Then these barriers show up in classrooms, workplaces, friendships, and everyday spaces.

Today, is a reminder to pause. It’s a day to rethink what we’ve been told and to choose more informed ways of seeing and including all people.

Let’s bust some myths about people with Down Syndrome together. Remember, understanding is a start and inclusion is the goal.

Not everything that’s different needs fixing. Some things just need a bit of understanding.

is a genetic variation, and a reminder that there’s more than one way to grow, learn, and live.
People with Down syndrome aren’t “inspiring stories” for living their regular lives or “exceptions” for being successful. They’re people like us, with routines, chaos, inside jokes, bad days, wins, big and small. The real challenge though is a world that isn’t always built to include them.
March 21 is . And this is Post 1 of 3 as we count down to a day that celebrates differences, challenges stereotypes, and pushes for a world where inclusion isn’t optional but the norm.

Let’s shift how we think. Let’s move from awareness to acceptance to inclusion.

March 1st was celebrated as International Wheelchair Day. So let’s talk about wheels.

Wheels are not a limitation. It’s the reason people can go to work, travel, show up to class, play sports, and for persons with disabilities, step (roll!) out of the house.

Wheelchairs are used before or after surgery, one may use it if they're living with a spinal cord injury, or cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, if you have arthritis, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, the reasons are sometimes temporary, sometimes for life. And every reason is valid.

And here’s something most people don’t know, modern wheelchairs can be custom-built down to the centimeter, picking the seat angle, wheel position, back support, because the right fit can prevent pain, improve posture, and increase independence dramatically!

There's the lightweight manual wheelchair to powered wheelchairs (check out this film on our Disability Awareness Website where experts from
IIT Madras talk about NeoFly, the wheelchair that turns into a bike)! There are sports wheelchairs built for speed, plus standing wheelchairs and they aren’t just assistive devices, they're access, they’re autonomy and they’re everyday freedom.

So today, if you see someone in a wheelchair, don’t think “confined to a wheelchair”, think, “a person using a wheelchair”.

See the momentum. Let’s shift the lens.

Sometimes, the most meaningful conversations begin gradually, with people sitting together, maybe with cards on a table and with curiosity instead of certainty.

This film follows Trinayani’s “Towards Inclusion” Disability Awareness card game kit, as it comes alive during multiple workshops throughout India! In these workshops, through play, discussion, and reflection, every participant explores disability not as a checklist or concept, but as a shared human experience.

If you’re interested in education, inclusion, or new ways of learning that make space for listening and understanding, this film offers a gentle, thoughtful window into how awareness can grow, through games and a good time!

Thank you Sourav Dutta for your support.

Our promises dignity, equality, and rights to everyone. This isn’t an abstract idea, it can show up in very real ways: In classrooms that are still learning how to include every child, in public spaces that need to become accessible and in communities where people are still fighting for their rightful place.

Access, education, and participation for all is about making our constitutional values visible in everyday life. Not just on paper, but in schools, streets, institutions, and homes.

On , let’s reflect on how far we’ve come, and how much more there is to do to ensure that rights are not conditional, and inclusion is not optional.
