Art speaks where words are unable to explain
Arts Based Therapy (ABT) uses a combination of visual art, drama, music, dance, storytelling, play and games, clay modelling, to improve a person's mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. ABT can be used effectively for children, adolescents as well as adults in the following areas:
Behavioural issues
Social issues
Cognitive issues
Temper tantrums
Attention disorder
Anxiety
Improving motor skills
Improving expression & communication
Learning disorders
Stress management
During therapy sessions, individuals are guided through a process of self-exploration where they connect with their inner selves, thus reflecting and revealing their inner-most emotions and anxieties. We pick up on the hidden metaphors and non-verbal symbols in their creations and thus begins the journey of healing ....again through various mediums of art. One does not need to be an artist or a dancer or a musician to attend these sessions. The goal here is not to "create" art, but use it for self-expression, healing and transformation. Individuals thus enjoy the entire creative process which so calming and therapeutic without the fear of being judged. By the end of their ABT journey, individuals do feel well-connected with their inner selves, are more aware of their feelings and emotions, are able to express and communicate better .....more than anything else they emerge calmer, stronger and happier than ever before. These are a just a few added benefits apart from improvement in areas for which they had seeked help. Many healthy minds make a wealthy society....so here's to happy living!!!
