Aglet Ink

Aglet Ink Aglet Ink is a creative content services firm that offers professional services to job seekers. For more details, write to reeti.roy@gmail.com. Tempest Bradford.

This includes but is not limited to resume writing, linkedin profiles writing, cover letters and coaching. The word ‘Aglet’ means a small metal or plastic sheath, which is typically used on each end of a shoelace, cord or drawstring. ‘Ink’ is a play on the word incorporated. Aglet Ink was started because individuals felt that they had the required qualifications, but were unable to present themselves well on paper and express themselves through their cover letter. As the resume and cover letter is usually the first point of contact, it could be a ‘make or break’ situation for the thousands of prospective job hunters. Each CV and cover letter is carefully handcrafted and we get to know the person, the sector they are applying to, and their strengths and weaknesses. If they have gaps in their CVs, we also help them understand how they can represent their time off as a strength, rather than a weakness. So far, we have worked with lawyers, private equity analysts, bankers and college students. Our clients have ranged from mid-career people in top multinationals to senior professionals wanting an update of their CVs. We also work very closely with school and college students, who are looking to write essays and want guidance on structure, style and format. We are also open to exciting collaborations pertaining to marketing, research and writing, so feel free to reach out to us :)

Please note : We do not write essays. We only provide editorial feedback. About me

Addressing Résumé Gaps: A Conversation in Progress

So many people have written to me this year- and the last- asking me what the appropriate way to address pandemic gaps on a resume is. I am putting forth my thoughts (for now), but this will be a part of a larger and ongoing conversation, one I shall keep updating as time goes by.

📌 1. Address any gaps head-on
✅ Covid-19 has taken a toll on not just our physical health but also our mental health.
✅ Once you are in a space to apply for jobs, directly address the time period on your resume when you were unemployed/unable to work.
✅ If you worked on any certifications, hobbies, took on any freelance work, or volunteered, state those as well.
✅ Even if you were unable to, directly address that and focus on your previous work experiences.

💪 2. Stand your ground
✔️ The ideal scenario is to find an understanding and compassionate recruiter.
✔️ But even if that is not the case, during salary negotiations, research your current market salary and ask for what you are worth.
✔️ A gap does not mean your pre-existing skills suddenly dissipate.
✔️ If your job hunt is taking longer than anticipated, start simultaneously sending out applications for independent and contract work in your chosen realm.

💙 3. Be kind to yourself
💡 Easier said than done in a situation as difficult as this one.
💡 But remember that this is an extraordinary situation that no one anticipated, and you are doing your best to put things in order.
💡 For that alone, you should be lauded.

✍️ 4. Write a cover letter that helps with your narrative
📌 Like I always say—unlike a resume, which is a paper representation of our professional lives, our lives are much more complex and non-linear.
📌 Sometimes, it is critical to share our stories with the world.
📌 It makes us who we are—human, humane, and flawed. And that's perfectly okay.

5 Resume Mistakes That Could prove a deterrent to you being hired

Your resume isn’t just a formality—it’s the first impression someone has of you. And sometimes, seemingly innocuous details can work against you. Here are five things that might be sabotaging your chances:
🚫 Revealing Confidential Information
Mentioning your current employer’s clients (unless publicly listed) signals a lack discretion—trust matters.
⚡ Ignoring the Employer’s Needs
A generic resume = a missed opportunity. Tailor it. Show how your skills align with their goals.
📊 Not Quantifying Success
“Managed social media” is forgettable. “Increased engagement by 50% in 3 months” is memorable. Use numbers.
⚠️ Including Polarizing Opinions
Unless your prospective employer shares your views, controversial affiliations might work against you. Stay neutral.
🔍 Forgetting ATS Keywords
If your resume isn’t optimized for Applicant Tracking Systems, it might not even reach human eyes. Use industry-specific terms.
Your resume should work for you, not against you. Which of these mistakes have you seen (or made) before? Let’s discuss this in the comments! ⬇️

"We often hear that growth occurs outside our comfort zones, but what does that even mean? Each individual's comfort zone is different. As human beings, we have plenty in common, but as individuals, we also have our unique strengths and challenges. For me, growth has meant embracing uncertainty, trusting the process, and allowing myself to be shaped by my experiences—good or bad."

- My piece for Sunday Reads

"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." – Oscar Wilde As we step into another Sunday, I find myself reflecting on the transformative journey of the past few years.
