Efficient patient care requires fast, accurate disease diagnosis. Ever since the serendipitous discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Conrad roentgen in 1895, radiological imaging has been the single most important factor influencing patient management. The speed with which imaging techniques evolve is mind boggling. It is a matter of great pride, that the first X-ray unit in the country was installed at the government general hospital in Chennai in the year 1900. The city however, had lagged behind in keeping pace with the giant strides that modern imaging was taking, upto the early part of the last decade.
