Did you know the top 3 deadliest cancers worldwide are lung, colorectal, and liver cancer?

The good news: early detection saves lives.

✅ Lung cancer → Low-dose CT scans catch it early.
✅ Colorectal cancer → Screenings like colonoscopy or stool tests can prevent it.
✅ Liver cancer → New treatments, including immunotherapy, are giving patients more hope.

👉 Know the symptoms. 👉 Don’t skip screenings. 👉 Share this to spread awareness.

Rising Early-Onset Cancers: A Growing Public Health Concern!

A new study has revealed a concerning trend: cancers traditionally associated with older adults—such as breast, colon, kidney, and uterine cancers—are increasingly being diagnosed in people under 50.

This rise in early-onset cancers is sparking urgent questions about why it’s happening. Research points to several possible contributors:
✳️ Lifestyle factors (diet, obesity, alcohol use, physical inactivity)
✳️ Environmental exposures
✳️ Earlier detection through improved awareness and screening

While better screening explains part of the increase, the steady upward curve suggests broader shifts in health patterns.

🔎 What does this mean?

🌟Earlier screening may become critical, especially for colorectal and breast cancers.
🌟Family history should guide risk assessment.
🌟Lifestyle choices—regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, limiting alcohol—remain powerful tools in prevention.
🌟Don’t ignore symptoms, even at a young age.

This is a wake-up call: cancer is not only a disease of aging. Younger generations must take this risk seriously and act early to protect their health.

World Organ Donation Day — August 13

Every year on August 13, we observe World Organ Donation Day to highlight the urgent need for organ donors and to address the myths and misconceptions that often prevent people from registering.

Why it matters:
✳️ Globally, millions await transplants, yet only a fraction receive them in time.
✳️ A single organ donor can save up to 8 lives and improve the quality of life for 75+ people through tissue and cornea donation.
✳️ Awareness, education, and open conversations are key to increasing donor registrations.

Organ donation is not just a medical act — it’s the most profound gift one human can give another: the gift of life.

✅ Take action today: Learn the facts, talk to your family, and consider registering as an organ donor. Your decision could be someone’s second chance.

🫁 Lung Cancer in Non-Smokers – A Rising Threat

Never Smoked But Diagnosed with Lung Cancer? You’re Not Alone.

Lung cancer has long been associated with smoking, but a growing number of cases are now being diagnosed in lifelong non-smokers.

In fact, if non-smoker lung cancer were a standalone category, it would rank among the top ten fatal cancers worldwide.

So, what’s driving this trend?

Emerging research points to several environmental and genetic factors:
🌟Air pollution – especially fine particulate matter (PM2.5)
🌟Radon gas – an odorless, radioactive gas that can accumulate indoors
🌟Second-hand smoke – passive exposure still carries significant risk
🌟Genetic mutations – such as EGFR and ALK rearrangements, often seen in younger non-smoking patients

Don't wait for symptoms.
Persistent cough, unexplained chest pain, breathlessness, or fatigue? These could be early signs.

✅ Early detection saves lives. If you’re at risk or symptomatic, get evaluated—regardless of smoking history.

Let’s raise awareness and break the myth:
🚫 Lung cancer is not just a smoker’s disease.

🎗️ World Hepatitis Day | July 28
🧬 Hepatitis Can’t Wait — Neither Can We

🩺 Did you know that chronic Hepatitis B and C infections are leading causes of liver cancer?
Globally, 1 in 2 liver cancer deaths are linked to viral hepatitis — a silent threat that often shows no symptoms until it's too late.

✅ Early detection
✅ Vaccination (for Hep B)
✅ Antiviral treatment
…can prevent liver cancer and save lives.

🛡️ Get tested. Get treated. Spread the word.

World Brain Day 2025 - Brain Health for All Ages

As an oncologist, I am reminded every day that brain cancer does not discriminate by age. It affects infants, adults, and the elderly—often with symptoms that are subtle or easily overlooked.

This World Brain Day, I encourage everyone to take a moment to understand the importance of early recognition and timely intervention.

🧠 Be aware of warning signs such as:
• Persistent or progressive headaches
• Seizures without a known cause
• Changes in vision, speech, or coordination
• Memory difficulties or personality changes

🎗️ Brain health is a shared responsibility.
Educating ourselves and others can lead to earlier diagnoses, better outcomes, and stronger support for those affected.

Let’s work together to promote equity in brain care, advance research, and ensure access to diagnosis and treatment for all.

Stage 1 Cancer Is Not Always “Safe” – Here's Why That Matters

Many people hear “Stage 1” cancer and think it’s not serious. After all, it’s early, small, and hasn’t spread—right?

But that’s not always the full picture.

Some cancers, even when caught early, can still be fast-growing and aggressive. What really matters is not just how big the tumor is or where it is, but how it behaves.

Doctors now look closely at the type of cancer cells, how fast they grow, and their genetic makeup to understand the full risk.

For example:
-> Some breast cancers like triple-negative or HER2-positive types
-> Certain lung or colon cancers
-> Rare neuroendocrine tumors

These can be Stage 1 but still need strong, targeted treatment.

The Bottom Line:
“Stage 1” does not always mean “low risk.”
Each cancer is unique, and so is each treatment plan.

That’s why it’s so important to focus on more than just the stage. Understanding the biology of the tumor helps doctors choose the right treatment—early and effectively.

Let’s raise awareness and support smarter, personalized care for every patient.

Protein and Cancer Treatment: What You Should Know!

Getting enough protein during cancer treatment is critical. It helps your body repair tissues, maintain muscle mass, and support immune function—especially important when undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.

What does the evidence say?
Clinical guidelines from organizations like the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and ESPEN (European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism) recommend higher protein intake during cancer care—1.0–1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day, and sometimes more for those with weight loss or high treatment stress.

Good protein sources include:
• Animal-based: Eggs, poultry, lean meats, fish, Greek yogurt, milk, cheese
• Plant-based: Beans, lentils, tofu, edamame, quinoa, nuts, seeds, nut butters

Practical tips:
– If appetite is low, try small meals and snacks throughout the day
– Add protein powders or nut butters to smoothies or oatmeal
– Choose soft, easy-to-swallow proteins if dealing with mouth sores or nausea

Why it matters:
Low protein intake during treatment is associated with increased fatigue, muscle loss, delayed recovery, and poorer outcomes. Getting the right nutrition can make a real difference in how patients feel and heal.

Always consult with a registered dietitian who specializes in oncology for personalized guidance.
