Hope you all are safe & following COVID 19 Protection Protocol. To fight Infectious Virus, It is highly recommended to sterilize office spaces, production areas, waiting rooms.
One of the most effective ways is ULV Fogging.
Ultra Low Volume fogging. A high velocity mist of disinfectant is sprayed using ULV fogging machine.
The fog created using this machine reaches almost every nitch & corner o the room be it Operation Theater or any other closed space.

, # Sterilizer
Our environment is full of micro organisms of all types harmful, harmless & useful.
If the micro organisms come in contact with open wounds, it poses a serious health hazard due to infection.
Generally an autoclave is used to sterilize Clothes, Instruments, Gauges, etc. used during & post surgery care.
Dhupam Karma: In era of Acharya Sushrut, sterilization was done by fumigation ( Jatmanasi, Tulasi, Nimba patra, Harida, etc were used as per articles which refer to Kashyap Samhita.)

Even today some Hospitals practise fumigation to sterilize their Operation Theatres. (However, the material used for fumigation is different such as Sodium Hypochlorite solution, Formaldehyde Solution, Hydrogen Peroxide + Silver, etc.) (The details are out of scope of this article.)
Coming back to autoclaves, one more application is found in sterilizing Labware. Another application in media preparation.
Autoclaves are primarily of following types:
1. Vertical steam sterilizers
A. Portable single walled approx 12”x12” / 12”x15” (6Ltr to 21 Ltr)
B. Single/ Double / Tripple Walled.
(35 Ltr to 180 Ltr)
2. Horizontal ( High Pressure )Sterilizers. These are generally of high capacities (150 Ltr onwards)

Autoclaves are generally set to operate at a pressure of 15 psi. Boiling point of water increases with raise in temperature. At 15 psi( 1.056 Kg/cm²), the Boiling point of water goes to about 121° C.

In basic design of autoclave, pressure is controlled by (SLPCV) Spring Loaded Pressure Control Valve, which can be manually set at different pressures.
If the pressure inside an autoclave increases beyond design pressure, uncontrolled, there is a Risk of a blast / explosion of the chamber due to High Pressure. The autoclave / sterilizer chamber, which is supposed to operate at 15 psi, for a specific period of time, ranging from 10 min onwards, is tested upto 20 psi. If it passes the test, it is accepted otherwise rejected at factory level itself.

In case SLPCV fails, there are *other components of control system which make good autoclaves full proof as far as safety is concerned.
Although these features add to the cost, these are mandatory for safety. Hence, whenever, you purchase an autoclave, check for safety features, which overweigh the cost saved.
I believe, life is more precious than the cost difference, which at times purchaser is tempted to save.

safety # Earthing
Friends, since last couple of months, the whole mankind is concerned about deadly virus Covid-19 and its spreading. It is quite natural that we are all taking precautionary measures to fight against it.Our honourable Prime Minister has taken the decision of Country Lockdown quite appropriately to curb Covid-19.
At this juncture, it is equally important that while taking due safety precautions to shun Covid-19 infection, we also should not ignore other threats. The risk of electrocution. Almost everybody receives a mild shock sometime or other. But some are not lucky enough and fatalities are caused every year due to electrocution.

Causes of Electric Shock
1. Insulation failure in appliance/s
2. Poor / Improper Earthing
3. Improper installation/wiring of appliance

Here we shall discuss Earthing
Earthing is essential for two reasons.
1. To safeguard Operator/User from getting electrocuted.
2. To save Machinery /Equipments/Appliances from damage

How does Good Earthing protect?
When there is insulation failure / fault in any equipment the supply gets connected to the body of the appliance. Now if the user touches this live part the supply is earthed through the body of the user thus giving jolt / shock to the user. The amount of current flowing through the body determines the intensity of jolt. Leakage current > 30mA is considered fatal as standard.
If the body of the appliance is properly earthed, in such failure the supply will get connected to earth thus grounding the supply and causing the earth leakage protection system to open the circuit feeding to the appliance. The protection can be provided by RCCB, ELR etc.
When the equipment under protection is life-saving equipment/s used in hospital or any other sensitive installations the insulation level of the feeder is continuously monitored. Any deterioration of the insulation level is reported with alarm and thus the impending fault can be arrested and necessary corrective action can be taken.
For all these safeties to operate the Earth connection in the electrical installation is of utmost importance. The utility of this earth connection is only in case of fault and it does not affect the day to day working, it is commonly neglected. This endangers life of the users
